VDC/ Digital Construction Coordinator

Reporting to the VDC/Digital Construction Manager the Reporting to the VDC/Digital Construction Manager the VDC/Digital Construction Coordinator will oversee on-site Virtual Design and Construction (VDC)/Building Information Modeling (BIM), related project coordination, including model coordination with consultant and trade contractors. They will also facilitate the implementation of Digital Construction amongst the project team.

This position is based out of Mississauga.

What You Will Be Working On

General Responsibilities 

  • Support project teams in the deployment of VDC workflows with a focus on coordination, planning, and construction execution support. 

  • Facilitate design and trade coordination and assist in identifying constructability and sequencing issues with the project team and subcontractors. 

  • Facilitate, in conjunction with the site team, the site logistics plan and support the development of schedule visualizations and 4D simulations to aid planning and decision-making. 

  • Responsible as the “Model and Coordination Administrator” for assigned projects, managing federated model inputs, coordination outputs, and issue tracking. 

  • Assist in training project staff and trade partners on coordination, clash detection, and simulation workflows and related software as required. 

  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned by the VDC/BIM Manager. 

Model Coordination & Accuracy 

  • Manage and facilitate federated coordination models received from consultants, subcontractors, and BIM service providers to support coordination and clash detection activities. 

  • Coordinate with BIM service providers and subcontractors to align model exchanges, coordination schedules, and issue resolution workflows. 

  • Support the resolution of coordination issues by clearly communicating clashes, constraints, and constructability concerns to designers, trades, and the project team. 

  • Coordinate 3D laser scan and point-cloud data for use in coordination, verification, and construction planning workflows. 

  • Accumulate facilities management related information from project stakeholders for incorporation into required project close-out deliverables. 

  • Manage model and coordination outputs for Change Management documentation, including coordination snapshots, issue logs, and model exchange records as applicable. 

  • Compile contract VDC close-out documentation as assigned. 

 

Schedule Visualization 

  • Work with the project team to develop and implement schedule visualization and 4D simulation workflows to support sequencing and construction planning. 

  • Educate and guide the site team on interpreting and using schedule visualizations and 4D outputs for planning and communication. 

  • Coordinate and produce 4D simulations (including site logistics as required) on an ad-hoc basis to support planning, sequencing validation, and stakeholder communication. 

 

Consultant Coordination 

  • Assist the project teams to develop a healthy dialog with consultants and designers focused on coordination, constructability, and readiness for construction. 

  • Facilitate the timely and orderly collection of consultant and trade models for use in federated coordination, clash detection, and simulation workflows. 

  • Coordinate with consultant Model Managers and Coordinators to clarify coordination requirements, file exchanges, and issue resolution responsibilities. 

  • Lead coordination and clash review meetings, including issue tracking, action assignment, and documentation of resolutions. 

  • Assist in the administration of the BIM Execution Plan as prescribed by either the Consultant or Client, with emphasis on coordination, data exchange, and construction planning workflows. 

 

Subcontractor/Trade Coordination 

  • Assist with updating, maintaining, and distributing documents to the field and subcontractors. 

  • Lead trade coordination and clash review meetings. 

  • Assist in the coordination of trade model inputs and documentation to support clash detection, constructability review, and readiness for construction. 

  • Record coordination sign offs.  

What We Are Looking For

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture 

  • Completion of Construction Management Certificate Program or equivalent an asset 

  • 5 years’ experience working with VDC/BIM related software (e.g., Revit, Civil 3D, Revizto, Synchro 4D Pro) 

  • Construction knowledge and/or related work experience an asset 

  • Ability to read and understand plans and specifications 

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, and a general understanding of MS Project/Primavera P6 

  • Ability to exercise discretion, judgment, and work with a degree of autonomy 

  • Highly motivated individual who embraces initiative and is results-oriented 

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and strong customer service orientation 

  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals 

  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
