Summary

Utilize best of class leading practices, tools and data to communicate performance improvement opportunities with executives, physicians, management and other leaders on the opportunities for clinical and/or operational effectiveness. Responsible for reviewing all areas in Value Stream, identifying waste reduction opportunities, developing implementation initiatives, and executing those strategies. Ability to tie the costs of material usage and labor to patient charges and revenue to drive substantial savings and margin improvements from historic run rates.

Major Job Functions

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.  The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below.  In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:

  • Consult with internal and external resources/members/customers to define project scope, design, metrics, and implementation strategy of identified process improvement initiatives
  • Responsible for the data extraction, analysis, reporting, and communication of data (medical, financial, and quality) from internal and external systems, including designing reports and benchmarking results in a clear and concise manner
  • Create and deliver presentations, reports, analysis, and advises leadership on strategic recommendations.
  • Monitor monthly budget and general ledger reports
  • Provide variance analysis and recommended actions if appropriate
  • Reviews patient charges for new supplies used in accordance with Materials and Financial Planning guidelines
  • Analyzes the revenue cycle and revenue stream for the business unit and assists in developing feasibility and profitability analysis and/or business plans for new and/or existing programs, procedures, and service lines to maximize revenue capture and operational margins
  • Works with suppliers to establish goals, expectations, and development plans
  • Negotiates prices for implants, supplies and equipment from vendors
  • Analyze individual items or projects using the Total Cost of Ownership approach to drive financial improvements
  • Acting as integrated liaison to the value analysis program and standardization policies and procedures for introduction of new products to inventory and deletion of products from inventory
  • Coordinates and documents product recalls
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

Education and Formal Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field required

  • Master’s degree in business or healthcare administration preferred

  • Business process modeling/mapping, methodology development and data modeling is preferred

  • Lean training preferred

Work Experience

  • 3 years in a healthcare delivery system with experience in data analytics and presentation

  • Experience working with clinical and/or financial data

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Ability to communicate critical information

  • Knowledge and ability to apply principles, theories and processes to operational management

  • Ability to understand technical and medical terminology as they relate to products used

  • Strong data analytical skills using a variety of software platforms

  • Ability to multi-task

Physical Requirements

  • Hearing and verbal ability to communicate is required

  • Visual acuity for use with computer systems and printed reports is required

  • Manual dexterity is required for use with computer keyboards
