POSITION TITLE: Value Stream Manager 

REPORTING TO: Director – Operations  

LOCATION: Benton Harbor, MI

SCOPE OF ROLE: 

Responsible for managing and continuous improvement of the entire value stream. Works with the value stream suppliers and customers to develop a material pull process and reduce inventory. Demonstrated success in applying basics of Lean: Single piece flow, setup time reduction, inventory reduction, 5S, etc. Demonstrated success: applying product family matrix, current and future value streams and achieving transformation. Supervises value stream team and maintains positive employee relations, team-oriented problem solving and administering employee discipline when necessary.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

  • Daily Value Stream Walk:  

  • Looking for proper flow, disruptions to flow, (identify on issue board), and adherence to standard work instructions.   

  • Coaching employees, defect data collection, and talking with operators about disruptions and ideas on continuous improvements.   

  • Improve key metrics: Safety, Quality, OTD, and Productivity.  

  • Works with Suppliers and customers to implement a material “Pull” process.   

  • Improve Kanban, outside processing and “Point of Use” material process.  

  • Improve a “Build to order” finish goods strategy.   

  • Develop current, future and next state value stream maps.  

  • Manage Value Stream Board.  

  • Schedule and drive transformation of improved value streams.   

  • Team building and skill development of the employees in the value stream areas assigned.   

  • Manages the V.S.O. to develop and administer consistent department and corporate policies.  

  • Responsible for safety and 5S in assigned value stream areas.   

 

 MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE: 

  • Sustainable performance improvements in especially safety (recordables) and quality (COPQ and customer response)   

  • Increase in employee engagement (e.g.: iSay survey results)  

  • Sustainable productivity output  

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS OR EQUIVALENCIES 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering with at least one (1) year demonstrated success in supervision or manufacturing technical support. OR  

  • Associates Degree in Business or Engineering with at least three (3) years demonstrated success in supervision or manufacturing technical support OR  

  • At least five (5) years demonstrated success in manufacturing supervision OR  

  • At least five (5) years Gast experience with at least one (1) year demonstrated success in Gast supervision  

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Lean processes, tools, and one-piece flow.   

  • Demonstrated leadership skills  

  • Demonstrated computer literacy especially working with Microsoft Excel and Word  

  • Ability to understand and apply basic cost accounting concepts   

  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes

  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.    

  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communications.    

  • Ability to learn, understand and apply basic cost accounting concepts.
