Boku inc.

UX/UI Designer

Tallinn, Estonia Full Time

Boku Inc. (BOKU.L) is the leading global provider of local mobile-first payments solutions. Global brands including Amazon, DAZN, Meta, Google, Microsoft, Netflix, Sony, Spotify, and Tencent rely on Boku to reach millions of new paying consumers who do not use credit cards with our purpose-built payment network of more than 300 local payment methods across 70+ countries. Every year, Boku processes over $10 billion in value for our customers. Incorporated in 2008, Boku is headquartered in London and San Francisco and has employees in over 39 countries around the world, including Brazil, China, Estonia, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Singapore, and the UAE. Boku is a truly global company that takes pride in its diversity and thriving equal opportunity workplace.

This role is the first addition to Boku’s growing design function, supporting the creation of a consistent, modern, and scalable design experience across multiple products and internal tools. The UX/UI Designer will work closely with the Head of Design to define and implement high-quality user experiences for both partner-facing and internal systems — including the customer payment flow interface, partner portal, and internal back-office tools.

The ideal candidate is confident across both UX and UI design disciplines — with a strong eye for interface quality, component consistency, and usability. They will translate business and user needs into clean, intuitive interfaces that scale across products and markets. As the first design team hire, this person will play a foundational role in shaping Boku’s design culture, ways of working, and design systems. Over time, as the team expands globally, this position will evolve into a subject-matter lead role — most likely focusing on the partner portal — and help onboard and mentor new designers in other time zones.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Execution & Implementation
  • Create UI designs, prototypes, and components that align with Boku’s evolving design system.
  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure design intent and interaction quality are met in implementation.
  • UX Research & Iteration
  • Translate user needs and business requirements into intuitive user journeys.
  • Support UX validation through testing, feedback, and usage analytics.
  • Design Systems & Consistency
  • Maintain and evolve shared patterns and components used across different Boku products and tools.
  • Contribute to the documentation and communication of design standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and other stakeholders to balance usability, feasibility, and delivery timelines.
  • Help establish a collaborative and transparent design workflow.
  • Scalability & Ownership
  • Take ownership of one or more product domains (initially partner-facing tools) as the design team scales.
  • Partner with the Head of Design to align local implementation with global UX principles.

Key Skills, experience and Competencies:

  • Proven experience as a UX/UI Designer, ideally in a B2B or enterprise product environment.
  • Strong UI design skills — attention to detail, consistency, and accessibility.
  • Solid understanding of UX fundamentals, interaction design, and user flow optimization.
  • Experience building or working within design systems (e.g., Figma components, tokens, or design libraries).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and product teams.
  • Practical understanding of how complex systems translate into usable design patterns.
  • Clear communication, visual documentation, and a structured approach to feedback.
  • A proactive, curious mindset — eager to learn, iterate, and improve.
  • Comfortable working in a growing, evolving team where processes are still being defined.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex design problems and deliver clear, usable interfaces.
  • Evidence of strong UX/UI thinking through prior work, design discussions, or practical exercises.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and managing design handover to engineering.
  • Familiarity with modern design tools such as Figma and prototyping workflows.
  • Curiosity, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in how products work, not just how they look.
  • (Formal degrees or portfolios are not required — what matters is your ability to demonstrate design capability, reasoning, and practical collaboration.)
