About The Team and Product
This position reports directly to the User Research Lead and is part of the digital products Product Management organization. Other team members work from Finland, Sweden, Italy, Poland, and Spain. This position is based in the Netherlands where you can work remote as well as from the office in Den Bosch.
The team is truly international and collaborates to create world-class digital learning solutions based on user discoveries. The User Researchers help all Sanoma Learning products deliver the greatest value to users. Together with another Netherlands-based User Researcher, you will conduct research in the Netherlands and Belgium, while also contributing to cross-market projects.
Key Job Responsibilities
Conduct qualitative research using a range of methods, including interviews, online panels, Diary studies, field studies, usability testing, heuristic and cognitive evaluations, and co-creation sessions
Take ownership of research end-to-end: from desk research and hypothesis definition to research planning, execution, synthesis, and communication of insights
Translate research findings into clear, actionable recommendations that inform product and design decisions
Collaborate closely with product managers, pedagogical experts, and designers to evaluate concepts, explore ideas, and support early-stage discovery
Facilitate and drive collaboration with stakeholders across product, design, and development teams in a multi-country environment
Maintain a strong understanding of local user and market needs, while contributing to a broader cross-market perspective
Contribute to and maintain user journeys and other key research artefacts
Work with the international user research team to define and evolve research practices, frameworks, and ways of working
Support and strengthen a user-centred culture by advocating for user needs and communicating insights to diverse audiences
Occasionally conduct on-site research, including school visits in local markets
Job Requirements
A degree or relevant background in user-centred design, HCI, psychology, or a related field
4+ years of experience in user research, with a strong focus on qualitative methods
Experience in driving research independently, from problem framing to delivering insights that influence product decisions
Interest in and understanding of the future of K-12 digital learning
Experience working on concept exploration and early-stage discovery
Experience working in multinational, cross-functional teams (matrix organizations)
Strong communication and facilitation skills, with a proactive and hands-on mindset
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
Ability to structure ambiguous problems into clear research approaches
Understanding of how agentic AI can support and enhance user research workflows
Curious, empathetic, with strong systemic thinking and sense-making skills
Excellent written and spoken English, native or near native Dutch mandatory (research is conducted in the local language)
Nice to have and a plus
Experience with mixed methods research
Ability to support concept development through sketching or framing ideas
Experience in education or digital learning environments
Additional European languages (e.g., Swedish, Finnish, Italian, Spanish, German, French, Polish)
