Job Description Summary
The Utility Worker supports C&W Services by performing routine facility upkeep, event setup, and general maintenance tasks to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient environment. This role requires a versatile, customer‑focused individual who can independently complete maintenance assignments, assist with meeting and event setups, and provide janitorial support when needed. Travel to the Windsor location may be required based on operational needs.
Job Description
The Utility Worker is responsible for performing a variety of hands-on facility tasks including basic repairs, light maintenance, and event support. Daily responsibilities include changing light bulbs, performing minor patch and repair work, adjusting fixtures, and supporting furniture repairs. The role will also assist with event setups by arranging tables, chairs, and room layouts according to customer‑provided diagrams, as well as handling breakdowns after events conclude.
When maintenance and event activities are minimal, this position will perform janitorial duties to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the facility. The technician must be able to communicate effectively with customers, follow written instructions, read and interpret event layout diagrams, and complete basic tasks using a computer for work orders and documentation. Occasional travel to the Windsor building and availability for overtime are required.
Typical Job Duties and Responsibilities
Facility Maintenance
- Perform general facility repairs including changing light bulbs, minor patch work, fixture adjustments, and furniture repairs.
- Conduct ergonomic adjustments and minor furniture maintenance as requested.
- Read, understand, and follow work orders, written instructions, and customer communications.
- Use basic hand tools to complete assigned maintenance tasks and respond to emergency repair calls.
- Report any damage, safety hazards, or discrepancies involving building property or equipment immediately to management.
Event & Meeting Setup Support
- Set up and break down furniture (tables, chairs, staging, etc.) for meetings and events according to customer-provided diagrams and specifications.
- Ensure event spaces are cleaned, organized, and returned to required standards after each use.
- Move and arrange furniture across multiple buildings as needed.
- Pick up, transport, and return skids, pallets, and moving boxes to designated areas.
Janitorial & Cleaning Duties
- Sweep, mop, and wash floors and other interior surfaces.
- Use commercial cleaning equipment, including floor buffers and shampoo machines.
- Vacuum carpets and rugs; spot clean daily and shampoo when directed.
- Clean and dust furniture, fixtures, exhibit cases, light fixtures, door trim, and other horizontal surfaces, including periodic high dusting.
- Wash windowsills, interior door glass, and specified interior/exterior windows.
- Clean and restock bathrooms according to standard procedures (wipe glass, empty trash, service dispensers, clean tile walls, sweep/mop/scrub floors, etc.).
- Perform periodic tasks such as wall washing, polishing leather/wood surfaces, and high dusting.
- Clean mechanical shops, unassigned areas, and cover for absenteeism as required.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the workshop, ensuring it remains swept, mopped, and free of clutter.
Waste Collection & Recycling
- Collect building trash, recycling, and compost from all floors and empty contents into compactors and designated bins.
- Replace liners in waste and recycling containers as required.
- Monitor compactor PSI readings and report when capacity is reached.
- Ensure building waste is placed in approved containers and transported to designated collection areas.
Operational Support & Communication
- Respond to calls via walkie‑talkie and complete work requests promptly.
- Use a computer to review, update, and close work orders; check and respond to emails.
- Receive and organize incoming supply shipments from the loading dock, placing items neatly in stock rooms.
- Perform supply inventory and communicate stock levels to management.
- Attend to clocks and other daily maintenance routines in designated executive or tenant areas.
- Interact professionally with tenants and customers, addressing their needs independently.
Additional Requirements
- Respond to emergency calls and perform heavy lifting up to 50 lbs as needed.
- Shovel or sweep snow from entrances, steps, and walkways as directed.
- Assist with any other duties as assigned to support building operations.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience with general facility maintenance (e.g., light bulb replacement, wall patching, fixture adjustments).
- Ability to perform basic furniture repair tasks.
- Ability to read, interpret, and execute event layout diagrams.
- Strong customer service and communication skills; able to interact professionally and independently with customers.
- Basic computer skills for completing work orders, emails, and documentation.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Flexibility to perform janitorial duties as needed.
- Must be available for overtime.
- Ability to travel to the Windsor building as required.
Preferred
- Previous experience in a facility maintenance, building services, or custodial environment.
- Familiarity with event setup processes and furniture handling.
- Basic knowledge of safety practices related to maintenance and custodial work.

The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on factors such as whether the position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, the geographic area in which the work will be performed, market pay rates in that area, and the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.
The compensation for the position is: $18.45 - $21.70
