Job Summary: You will serve as a UTILITY SYSTEMS REPAIRER-OPERATOR LEADER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT, PRODUCT DIVISION of NAVFAC NORTHWEST.

Major Duties:

  • You will plan and lay out repairs, and/or modifications of a variety of complex equipment and systems, and operate and adjust pumps, motors, valves, solenoids, switches, safety devices, thermostats, and other similar devices.
  • You will start, operate, adjust, and stop multiple fuel power boilers and auxiliary equipment in a steam boiler plant requiring continuous attention to monitor efficiency.
  • You will operate various computer terminals to monitor, interpret, and control the mechanical distribution systems, including saltwater, low pressure compressed air and sewer lift stations, and monitor alarms and initiate corrective actions.
  • You will make technical decisions and judgments on systems and subsystems operation, adhering to established practices, outlined objectives, and technical requirements.
  • You will lead maintenance, minor repairs, and tests for a variety of complex equipment and systems involving single and multiple fuel power boilers, and associated auxiliary equipment such as water treatment systems, chemical dispensers.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Utilities Systems Repairer-Operator Leader without more than normal supervision, performing duties such as: 1) Operating, maintaining and repairing, at the Journeyman level, large high pressure, high temperature, dual fuel fired steam generating plants and auxiliary equipment including compressed air, emergency diesel generators, potable and waste water plants, and electric distribution systems/equipment; 2) Performing detailed boiler water chemistry analysis and make the necessary adjustments to ensure chemistry is within recommended limits; 3) Leading less experienced personnel in performing preventive and scheduled maintenance on plant systems/equipment; 4) Maintaining and reviewing operational logs and data to identify potential trends in system operations; and 5)advising less experienced personnel on required safety and housekeeping standards.
