Under general supervision, serves as flagger and escort of work crews on the Track & Right of Way (ROW), performs cleaning, servicing, fueling and operating of non-revenue vehicles for facilities and track sections. Duties will include assisting in the daily maintenance of other equipment and components assigned to Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Ways, Structures & Amenities Division.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Escort and serve as flagger on track right-of-way (ROW) consistent with established procedures.
Dig and cement sign posts, affix signs to posts as required, dig and excavate either earthen and/or concrete areas for repair.
Assist the Ways, Structures & Amenities sections Technicians, Mechanics, and Maintainers with maintenance, service, fueling, operating and repair of vehicles, facilities, and/or systems tools and equipment.
Pick up and deliver materials as directed.
Promote and adhere to established safety, training, and quality assurance programs.
Complete required training to maintain and enhance required job knowledge, skills, and safety awareness.
Maintain proper communication with Rail Operation Control while on duty.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
Must obtain and maintain certification in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position.
Must be able to orally communicate in an effective manner with the public, co-workers, supervisors and managers to ensure efficient operations; to promote safety; and to respond to emergencies. Must also be able to read and comprehend a variety of work related/required technical manuals, safety rules and regulations.
Must have a valid Driver's License Class-C, and be able to obtain a Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class-A Restricted within 90 days of employment; no Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than three (3) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
Applicants/employees must pass and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination including pre-employment drug test and must submit to Federal Transportation Administration-required random drug/alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment.
Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to make decisions in the absence of guidance from others, and to plan and carry out work assignments in situations where the procedures have been established.
Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to interact effectively with a diverse customer population while under pressure.
Personal computer (PC), software applications to include MS Office (Word, Excel, Access).
Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours, nights, holidays, weekends, and short notice availability. May be required to travel to multiple work locations.
Physical ability to be mobile 100% of work time, exert physical effort while standing, walking, or lifting materials/tools/objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Position requires working in crowded and tight spaces such as manholes, tunnel and aerial structures.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
