Job Summary:

Bucknell University is seeking candidates to fill a vital role in the Utility Plant. The Utility Plant Operator will operate the boilers, turbine generator, chill water plant, and general equipment in accordance with utility plant procedures.

Job Duties:

Reporting Relationships:

  • Reports to: Utility Plant Supervisor


Schedule/Location:

  • Swing Shift - varying shifts to meet the needs of the university

  • Located on-campus in the Utility Plant


What You Will Do:

  • Performs hourly readings of boilers and chilled water plant parameters and documents readings.      

  • Performs multiple daily chemical tests for waters in the boilers and the chilled water plant and adjusts chemical addition rates accordingly.             

  • Maintains boilers, turbine generator, and chilled water plant and associated equipment.

  • Performs corrective maintenance based on faults and indications using critical knowledge of plant design and operations. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment to meet regulatory requirements.

  • Maintains cleanliness of workspace and organization of tools, parts, and equipment in the work space.  

  • Operates boilers, turbine generators and chilled water plant including adjusting operation/parameters based on weather conditions and campus demands.     

  • Monitors campus chilled water systems/equipment via Building Automation System.


What You Will Bring:


Utility Plant Operator I

  • Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or GED

  • Preferred Education: Vocational or technical training or degree

  • Minimum Required Work Experience: No previous experience required

  • Preferred Work Experience: 1 year experience maintaining and repairing or operating industrial equipment, such as boilers, pumps compressors and chillers


Utility Plant Operator II

  • Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or GED

  • Preferred Education: Vocational or technical training or degree

  • Minimum Required Work Experience: 2 years

  • Preferred Work Experience: 4 years experience maintaining and repairing or operating industrial equipment, such as boilers, pumps compressors and chillers


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, crouch, push/pull, bend, stoop, climb stairs/ladders, kneel/squat

Pay Range

Utility Plant Operator I: $21.17 - $26.46

Utility Plant Operator II: $22.70 - $28.38

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy. 

This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US without a need for current or future visa sponsorship.
