Summary of Responsibilities
- Work assignments at the entry level are demanding and require the employee to perform many functions on a daily basis. Such functions would include, but are not limited to:
- Lift tools, equipment, supplies and debris up to 50 pounds from ground level to chest level in order to load, unload, transport or dispose of such items.
- Ascend and/or descend from one mill level through the use of ladders, enclosed stairways and open grated stairways.
- Perform job assignments above and below ground level. Examples include working on ladders, equipment and catwalks or working in basements and scrap pits.
- Grasp and control various types of hand and power tools in order to complete assigned tasks. Examples include shovels, hammers, saws, scrubbers, wrenches, burning torches, power washers, electronic readers and computer terminals.
- Push and/or pull various types of equipment in order to complete assigned tasks. Examples include wheelbarrows and hand carts.
- Move from one job site to another throughout assigned work areas in order to complete assigned tasks.
- Operate mobile equipment, including a cab crane and/or remote-control crane.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent from an accredited school.
- Excellent communication skills, highly motivated and willing to work in a self-directed team environment with minimal supervision and direction.
- Excellent work attendance record, willing to report to work as scheduled, flexibility to work overtime as needed or directed.
- Must be willing to perform shift work, including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays; Shift work may encompass 8, 10, or 12-hour work shifts.
- Willing to work in a variety of different indoor and outdoor environments including very hot, cold and/or noisy surroundings, and at heights and catwalks, including see-through metal gratings. Work environments include exposure to different types of industrial working conditions including steam hazards.
- Willing to perform essential job duties, successfully pass a drug screen and background check and must pass a physical exam prior to starting employment.
- Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 or more years of post-high school education in a technical field is preferred.
