UTeach at UT Austin includes the innovative UTeach Natural Sciences teacher preparation program, a national expansion effort for that program, teacher professional development, and several local STEM education initiatives, all supporting the improvement of STEM education and the public education system overall. 

Purpose

To promote student success and engagement within the UTeach Program by supporting strategic recruitment and retention efforts, delivering comprehensive academic advising across multiple degree pathways, coordinating scholarship and certification processes, and monitoring completion of Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements. Through collaborative event planning, student organization advising, and targeted outreach, this role contributes to the preparation of future STEM educators and strengthens the UTeach community.

Responsibilities

  • Academic Advising & Student Support: Provide comprehensive academic advising and holistic support to undergraduate students and program applicants across multiple pathways. Interpret and apply university, college, and program policies; guide academic planning and progress toward degree and certification goals; and connect students with appropriate campus resources. Partner with faculty, departments, and campus stakeholders to address student needs, resolve complex cases, and support timely access to required coursework. Maintain accurate advising documentation and participate in relevant meetings and professional development to ensure high-quality, consistent advising practice.

  • Certification & Compliance Support: Coordinate and support processes related to student teaching eligibility, program completion, and external reporting requirements. Monitor student progress toward required milestones; communicate requirements, timelines, and next steps; and ensure accurate collection, verification, and retention of required documentation. Maintain reliable student records and workflow tracking, and collaborate with internal partners to promote consistent compliance with applicable TEA and university standards.

  • Academic Program Coordination: Contribute to ongoing program planning and continuous improvement efforts, including coordination with faculty and campus partners on academic program requirements, student-facing processes, and issue resolution. Represent UTeach within relevant advising and program communities; participate in committees and working groups; and support decision-making related to student success, scholarships/awards, and student support initiatives.

  • Outreach, Engagement, and Recruitment Support: Support student engagement and recruitment efforts through participation in orientations, information sessions, and other student-facing programming. Contribute to outreach communications and initiatives designed to improve awareness, retention, and belonging among prospective and current UTeach students.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 years experience working with college students in an academic counseling capacity OR Master's degree and 4 years experience in counseling, group work, assessment and administration of student academic programs

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to communicate with all levels of constituents; students, faculty and other staff members with demonstrated professional demeanor.

  • Able to work independently and in teams with overlapping projects.

  • Experience working with standard applications in M365: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • More than the required experience working directly in student services administration, education, counseling, or related field.

  • Previous experience working in undergraduate advising at UT Austin and knowledge of the undergraduate student processes at UT Austin. 

  • Familiarity with technology applications relevant to student academic advising. 

  • Experience working with university-based or alternative teacher certification programs.

  • Experience overseeing groups of students.

Salary:

$52,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • Will include some evening and weekend hours

  • Work in typical office space, including repetitive use of a keyboard

  • Occasionally lift and move boxes up to 50 pounds.

  • Office is located on a floor with active teaching labs that contain biological and chemical hazards.
