Job Description Summary:

Responsible for delivering design coursework for an enterprise client program in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect knowledge of the teaching field. Supports institutional design programming and researches pathways for credit articulation. Meets professional standards in accordance with college policies and procedures.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepare and teach design studio sessions to active-duty military students based on approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of adult learners and the standards of the discipline

  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations

  • Administrative Support

  • Grading assignments based on rubrics

  • Manage course communications and scheduling coordination

  • Coordinate guest speakers and field trips, including outreach, scheduling, logistics, and materials preparation

  • Prepare and update course materials and learning management system content

  • Track attendance and student progress metrics

  • Perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, and maintaining course documentation)

  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Director, department chair, dean, and/or College leadership

Knowledge

Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Explain the role of a user experience designer as part of a multi-disciplinary team to non-designers or new designers.

  • Describe the best use of software tools for user experience design.

  • Demonstrate strong interests and capabilities in the design and development of engaging user experience for digital products; and

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of contemporary user-centered design methodologies such as user research, participatory design, user interface design, prototype and testing, and emerging specializations of the user experience design field

Technology Skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications and student information and database systems.

  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom, including Blackboard Ultra

  • Proficiency with design software and tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma)

Required Work Experience

  • Documentable 3 years non-teaching industry-relevant work experience.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Art, Visual Communication, Commercial Art, Computer Graphics, Graphic Design, Interactive Media, Interactive
    Technology, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction or Interactive Design, English and/or Technical Communication, Interface Design, UI Design, Visual Design, User Experience Design, Web Design, or

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related design, computer science, or art subfield

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.

  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.

  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 30 pounds.
