What you'll do...

The Wellbeing organization is looking for a Principal Software Engineer – Full Stack to lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and resilient enterprise applications that power Walmart’s global workforce. In this strategic role, you will define full-stack architecture, modernize legacy platforms, and integrate cutting-edge technologies including React Native, container frameworks, cloud-native services, and GenAI capabilities. You will provide hands-on technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and ensure Walmart’s GTA applications remain best-in-class in performance, reliability, and user experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the end-to-end architecture and implementation of high-scale full-stack applications used by millions of associates globally.
  • Lead the technical modernization of legacy systems, including structured migrations from JSP-based UIs to modern React Native containerized applications.
  • Design and deliver robust, secure, and scalable APIs, backend services, and front-end components using React, Node.js, TypeScript, and cloud-native technologies.
  • Establish and enforce engineering excellence standards across CI/CD, observability, test automation, and system design.
  • Guide the adoption of Walmart’s shared container strategy, enabling consistent web and mobile delivery across global markets.
  • Integrate GenAI capabilities to enhance user experience, productivity, and automation (e.g., smart form fill, contextual suggestions, developer copilots).
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, DevOps, Data, Security) to deliver features aligned to business goals.
  • Lead technical planning and execution across multiple markets, balancing reusability with localized needs.
  • Mentor engineers and drive continuous learning, design thinking, and technical collaboration across teams.
  • Contribute to release readiness, production support strategies, and system performance optimization.

What You’ll Bring

  • 13+ years of hands-on software development experience in full-stack environments.
  • Proven track record of leading complex, enterprise-scale projects involving millions of users.
  • Deep expertise in React, Node.js, TypeScript, RESTful APIs, and cloud-native architecture (e.g., Azure, GCP, or AWS).
  • Strong command of containerized and cross-platform development (React Native, Next.js, AllSpark-style frameworks).
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems and building greenfield applications.
  • Knowledge of GenAI technologies and experience integrating AI/ML components into production systems.
  • Strong background in CI/CD, DevOps, monitoring, and performance tuning.
  • Familiarity with secure authentication, data modeling, and distributed system patterns.
  • Excellent collaboration and leadership skills, with ability to influence without authority.
  • Commitment to quality, technical mentorship, and a high-performance engineering culture.

Key Responsibilities within the GTA Modernization Program

  • Lead Cross-Market Technical Execution
    Guide design, development, and rollout of core GTA capabilities (e.g., clocking, scheduling, compliance) across U.S., Mexico, and international markets using scalable architectures.
  • Migrate Legacy Platforms to Modern Stack
    Own and drive the structured migration from legacy Workbrain/JSP interfaces to a React-based headless architecture with containerized delivery.
  • Promote Code Quality and Automation at Scale
    Define and propagate best practices for unit testing, integration testing, static analysis, and deployment pipelines across teams.
  • Accelerate GenAI Adoption in GTA
    Champion and lead GenAI innovation in the GTA space—from developer productivity tools to user-facing intelligent suggestions.
  • Build a Global-Ready, Modular Platform
    Design technical patterns that support global feature parity, configuration-based localization, and scalable multi-tenant services.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
