We are looking for a U.S. - Senior Tax Specialist in Berlin.
As a U.S. Senior Tax Specialist (part-time, 20 hours per week), you will report directly to the Principal Tax Specialist. With the U.S. already Babbel’s largest market, your expertise will be crucial in optimizing our tax processes and shaping our global tax strategy. You’ll ensure compliance, efficiency, and proactive support for our U.S. operations.
You will
- Advise Babbel on all matters of U.S. tax law (Federal, State & Local Taxes), focusing on our largest market.
- Prepare, in collaboration with external tax advisors: state tax returns, rent tax returns and 1099 forms.
- Register states/cities for U.S. taxes and manually file sales tax returns where necessary.
- Coordinate and support U.S. tax audits.
- Analyze changes in U.S. tax law and assess their impact on Babbel’s U.S. business.
- Answer tax questionnaires from U.S. states via an external provider.
- Design robust processes with internal stakeholders to align business needs with legal reporting and documentation for the U.S. market.
- Provide clear, professional, and well-informed tax advice to colleagues, especially finance leads.
- “Own” US taxation, from registration through payment, ensuring that we pay all necessary taxes in a timely and accurate manner.
You have
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax or equivalent or a degree as a tax specialist.
- 3+ years in a corporate tax role or tax consulting, focused on U.S. taxes, with hands-on experience in handling tax registrations, filings, and disputes.
- Exposure to or experience with international tax is a plus.
- Experience in a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) environment is a plus.
- In-depth understanding of U.S. tax law.
- U.S. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar qualification is a plus.
- Eagerness to expand Babbel’s knowledge and expertise in U.S. tax matters.
- Ability to apply theoretical tax knowledge to practical business scenarios.
- Business fluency in German or English (spoken and written).
- Strong analytical thinking, collaboration and communication skills.
