Position Summary:

Inventory control specialists work in the warehouse.  They collect data using a computerized system which allows them to track various aspects of inventory.  This data is used to calculate products and parts orders and ensure that the proper amount of inventory is distributed at the right time.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise, oversee and plan every activity that relates to inventory control in the organization or warehouse environment

  • Ensure all items in the warehouse are accurate,  audited,  received and stored.

  • Ensure inventory will meet customer demands efficiently.

  • Work directly with Management to advise on stock inflow and outflow

  • Perform regular cycle counts of inventory

  • Compile inventory information and present it to Management for effective decision making, which may include the need for restocking.

  • Provide recommendations to Management and Sales Leaders

  • Provide accurate information on inventory to customers to guide them on order availability

  • Initiate policy changes regarding inventory in the Company

  • Investigate inaccuracies in the inventory system and execute necessary improvements towards better business performance focusing on customer satisfaction

  • Perform coaching functions to staff where necessary; work with Management where discipline may be required

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Must have strong mathematical skills and ability to calculate figures such as averages, proportions, percentages etc.

  • Must have advanced knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, email and internet software applications, and the ability to learn new software related to the role. Experience with databases is helpful.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to comprehend written materials easily

  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write routine reports and electronic correspondence. 

  • Must have the ability to speak effectively in front of internal customers, suppliers or colleagues, both through phone and through face to face conversations.

  • Ability to multi-task with attention to processes and detail, demonstrating accuracy and thoroughness.

  • Able to work both independently and as a team member.

Equipment / Tools / Technology:

  • Desktop or laptop computer 

  • Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Sites, Drive, Docs, Groups)

  • Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer)

  • Networked printer/copier/facsimile machine

  • Gordon Food Service systems - including cost, pricing and reporting systems
