The role

This is a senior reporting role for an experienced corporate and business reporter who is able to synthesise trends across industries and break news in a range of sectors.

The successful candidate will be an energetic, entrepreneurial reporter and accomplished writer who can work with reporters across the FT network to produce big scoops, compelling interviews and agenda-setting analysis on doing business in Donald Trump’s America. This job is best for a self-starter with lots of ideas who is keen to jump in and report and write quickly.

To land great stories and elevate our coverage above rivals, this person must have — or be able to build quickly — a rich contacts book, comprising CEOs and chairs, bankers, lawyers, lobbyists and other advisers, as well as institutional investors and wealthy individuals.

This role will work closely with our network of US corporate and finance beat reporters as well as sector specialists in London. S/he will also take the lead when important news breaks in sectors where we do not have a North American expert. The point of this role is to add reporting firepower and writing chops to our coverage of business stories that matter to  globally focused readers.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in corporate reporting and the confidence and experience to pile into the biggest business stories of the moment. S/he will be comfortable writing both deep dives and scoopy splashes.

A willingness to travel frequently is essential. This reporter would be expected to contribute widely to the editorial output, including videos, blogs, and potentially commentary, as well as participating in the FT’s live conferences and events.

We expect the job will be based in New York alongside most of the corporate and financial reporters as well as the US editing team.

Please submit your application by the end of the day, Sunday February 8 2026.

Salary range

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $150,000 to $200,000. To ensure pay fairness, the successful candidate will be offered a salary within the estimated salary range based on a number of considerations including but not limited to: skill set; experience and training; certifications; and other business and organisational needs. This position is represented by the News Guild.

The use of AI

Original reporting, great writing and intelligent commentary lie at the heart of FT journalism. Our readers trust us to produce quality journalism that is accurate, fair and insightful. This is why FT editorial staff do not by default use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to write articles or create other reader-facing content. For specific and pre-approved cases, AI can be harnessed for certain tasks, such as assisting data research for investigations.

We expect applicants to the FT newsroom to refrain from using AI in their test submissions, and any written materials should be a genuine reflection of their own knowledge, skills and experiences. We encourage candidates only to employ AI as a tool to help with research and interview readiness for a role.

Candidates should be aware that the use of AI throughout the application process is monitored to ensure a fair and transparent hiring process for all.
