Job Description Summary

The Business Intelligence Analyst II will develop and deliver comprehensive business intelligence solutions that support decision-making across the College of Dental Medicine. This position encompasses designing and building reports, dashboards, and analytical tools using Epic EHR and institutional data platforms; fulfilling customized reporting requests from clinical and administrative leadership; developing sustainable accreditation reporting systems in collaboration with Clinical Affairs; evaluating and recommending business intelligence platforms and tools; and supporting training initiatives and special projects as assigned. This person will work closely with IS teams to troubleshoot technical issues, ensure regulatory compliance with FERPA and HIPAA, and provide actionable insights that help CDM leadership monitor progress toward departmental goals. The successful candidate must possess strong analytical and communication skills, a deep understanding of data analytics and visualization best practices, and the ability to translate business needs into effective data solutions. This position reports to the Information Systems/Business Analyst III.

Job Description

35%: Create reports, data visualizations, and dashboards that provide actionable business intelligence for CDM leadership. Assess gaps in existing reporting capabilities; gather, document, and manage departmental reporting needs and requests. Develop query criteria to leverage institutional datasets and industry benchmarks. Design and build analytical tools to establish baseline activity and support monitoring of progress toward departmental goals.

25%: Oversee and fulfill requests for customized queries and reports by determining user needs and developing coded outputs. Works closely with MUSC IS Cadence/Prelude, Ambulatory, and Resolute teams to troubleshoot issues and implement needed changes. Ensure all projects meet deadlines and comply with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations. Answer business and educational questions using data from Epic EHR and other institutional platforms.

15%: In collaboration with Clinical Affairs, develop a sustainable reporting system that supports accreditation across all CDM programs. Evaluate business intelligence platforms for security, accessibility, and usability; test new systems as needed and recommend appropriate tools for reporting and dashboards.

10%: Assess the data security, accessibility, and ease of use of various business intelligence vendors, and make recommendations on the software and tools CDM should use to create and provide reports and dashboards to faculty and staff. Test new platforms and software systems as warranted.

10%: Collaborates with subject matter experts, compliance teams, clients, colleagues, and senior leaders to develop and deliver content aligned with CDM objectives and MUSC strategic goals. Recommends innovative approaches to content design, content management, and the use of eLearning and multimedia tools to produce engaging, industry-leading training materials. Designs, delivers, and maintains eLearning, online, and print training materials to ensure content accuracy and support in-person training initiatives.

5%: Complete special projects and any additional duties as assigned by the Information Systems/Business Analyst III.
