Job Description Summary

The Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina offers a one-year accredited fellowship in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery under the mentorship of Krishna Patel, M.D., Ph.D., Michelle Hwang, M.D., Dr Tyler Rist, M.D. and Judith M. Skoner, M.D. The fellowship offers comprehensive training in the specialty of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, including rhinoplasty, craniofacial, facial reanimation, facial trauma, and local reconstruction, to prepare the fellow for practice as a subspecialty trained Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon. Fellows will be expected to participate in educating residents and medical students. The fellow will have graduated responsibility throughout the year, with an opportunity for increasing independence with
advancing technical skill level and familiarity with the procedures. Salary and benefits are commensurate with a PGY-6 level.

Job Description

Clinical Component

The fellow will spend approximately one day per week in clinic, and four days per week in the OR. The fellow will be expected to attend specialty multi-disciplinary clinics including craniofacial and facial paralysis clinics. The fellow will round and participate in all inpatient care. The fellow will participate in the attending otolaryngology call pool rotation.

Research Component

The fellow will be expected to contribute to ongoing clinical projects and produce 1 publication for the year.

Educational Component

Fellows are expected to participate in the annual resident Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery course and attend and help deliver departmental didactic activities focusing on Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants will have completed a residency program in Otolaryngology before the scheduled start date. The applicant should be BC/BE in Otolaryngology. A South Carolina medical license and VA privileges must be obtained prior to the fellowship year.
