Job Description Summary
The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Pharmacy seeks to fill the Chair of the Department of Drug Discovery & Biomedical Sciences with an appointment as a tenured Professor of the College of Pharmacy. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, the Chair is a member of the executive leadership team of the College working collaboratively with the leadership team, faculty and staff to support and advance the strategic goals of the University, College and Department. The College of Pharmacy seeks applications from distinguished academicians with proven scientific, strategic, and collaborative leadership skills. The chair is expected to increase the collaborative relationship between departments for both research and education, and outside the College. The successful candidate should be a leader committed to the development of the Department as the leading research unit of the College of Pharmacy with a focus on extramural grant funding, academic excellence, and cultural inclusivity in support of the research, education, and service missions of the institution. The chair is expected to continue an extramurally funded research program. Job Description
Responsibilities
The Chair reports to the Dean and is a member of the College’s Executive Leadership Team. The chair works collaboratively with the College’s leadership team, faculty, and staff to support and advance the strategic goals of the University, College, and Department. The candidate will be expected to provide leadership for the Department of Drug Discovery & Biomedical Sciences to promote the development of innovative research programs that align with the research mission of the College of Pharmacy and the Medical University of South Carolina and to promote high-quality education for pharmacy and graduate education.
Qualifications
· Applicants should have a Ph.D., Pharm.D./Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree and a record of scholarship commensurate with appointment as a tenured Professor of the College of Pharmacy.
· The successful candidate will be expected to conduct a vibrant, externally funded research program and should have an international reputation and track record of success in drug discovery or fundamental sciences of pharmacy (medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology).
· Successful candidates should have prior experience in directing research and educational programs and should have demonstrated leadership qualities commensurate with directing an academic unit
· Since the Chair has administrative, financial, and operational responsibilities the successful candidate should have a record of commitment to a culture of institutional stewardship and transparency, equity and inclusion, and efficient and effective business operations
· The letter of interest should include a scientific vision statement that provides a description of the applicant’s current and future research interests, their strategic vision for the department, and an academic vision statement that addresses the applicant’s experience and perspective on critical issues in pharmacy & graduate education.
