The Surgery Unit Secretary functions as an integral member of the patient care team under the direction of the Charge Nurse and the supervision of the Clinical Operations Supervisor and Assistant Director OR/GI. S/he provides secretarial and clerical support to ensure continuity of care for all patients cared for in Perioperative Services.The staff member in this position must demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and customer service skills at all time.Job Description:
EDUCATION
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience
Associate's: Business College or AA degree preferred
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:
Minimum (recent) 6 months pertinent experience in an acute-care hospital setting.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Medical terminology
Thorough understanding of surgical and procedural terminology Windows-based computer applications
Keyboard skills - typing @ 35 wpm
Computerized scheduling system
Microsoft Office (Excel,Word, Outlook)
Excellent communication skills and phone etiquette
Ability to spell accurately
Ability to work cooperatively with others and adjust to changing work situations.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, in English.
Strong ability to handle detail-oriented work, organize, prioritize and make decisions within defined boundaries and using appropriate resources as needed.

Pay Range is $30.61 to $38.43 / hourThe compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled.
