Job Summary
This position will require a highly skilled lighting technician who will work closely with the audio technician, production coordinator and supervise LSU student employees. This position is responsible for the proper use and maintenance of all lighting equipment owned by the Union Theater, organization/execution of all lighting rental needs, tracking all lighting expenses, and serve as lighting technician for all productions at the Union Theater. This position will provide advanced technical advise and assistance in the design and fabrication of materials produced for presentations, performances and other on and off-campus public service use. This position will assist in the training of full-time technicians and student employees. This position will require a team player who is dedicated to the job with the willingness to work nights and weekends.
Job Responsibilities
Responsible for advanced technical support in lighting equipment as well as hanging fixtures, focusing fixtures, and console programming for all events. Plans and carries out the structure of lighting for every performance, prepares lighting console and equipment for shows, and maintains the quality of stage and house lighting throughout a performance. Troubleshoots, reports and repairs system problems. Supervises and assists with load-in/strike of all lighting equipment including fixtures, cabling, screens/computer networks and software configurations for events. Attends all production meetings. Assists in training entry-level technicians hired in the department. 30%
Supervises event work calls to ensure safe, effective and efficient set up and execution of event production. Assists with all stage event set up, as needed. Fills in as other technical positions; stage manager, fly rail operator, audio tech, etc in the absence of the required position. Assists in training of student employees as hired and assists in supervision of student workers during all scheduled events. 20%
Responsible for proper procedures for lighting equipment and observes proper safety measures when performing technical duties. 20%
Assists with inventory and maintenances of all theatrical equipment and supplies throughout the year. Responsible for repairing, cleaning, and organizing all equipment with other technical staff. Assists with ordering supplies and equipment. Prepares and manages operating budget for sound equipment and participates in strategic planning to sound equipment advances. 20%
Establishes and implements safe working practices in the theater. Continuously researches other theater facilities to ensure that all Union Theater audio operations are up to date. 5%

Years of Experience:
1-2 years of related experience.
Specific Experience:
Experience programming and operating an ETC ION lighting control system and moving head instruments. Experience in Lighting design and use of theatrical lighting fixtures.
Preferred Experience:
Able to supervise a crew of student workers up to 6 people, climb and work on ladders, lifts, catwalks, and grids, regularly lift 50 lbs or more, read and create lighting plots, technical drawings, and schematics, work evenings and weekends. Knowledge of lighting equipment including programming fixtures and consoles, atmospheric effects, DMX, networking, etc. Knowledge of rigging and electrical safety standards.
