Union Diesel Mechanic

2056-Pendleton Sanitary Service Full time

Pendleton Sanitary Service Inc. is looking for a safety-minded Union Diesel Mechanic to join us in Pendleton, OR.

Starting rate of pay is $34.25/HR

Schedule is Monday – Friday

Shift is 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM or 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, with some overtime as needed.

Safety Sensitive: Yes

Qualified candidates must have a Valid drivers license and medical card, Clean Motor Vehicle Report & Eligible Criminal Background Report.

DUTIES:

Perform all routine service and maintenance work on trucks and equipment.

  • Oil & filter changes, greasing, and mechanical inspections
  • Brakes, wheel seals, and bearings
  • Replace u-joints, springs, steering assemblies
  • Replace tarps and perform repairs on transfer trailers
  • Perform repairs on containers, drop boxes, and compactors if necessary

Perform troubleshooting and repair on collection, recycling, and transfer station trucks & equipment including but not limited to:

  • Hydraulics
  • Electrical
  • Air
  • Mechanical

Perform service calls, troubleshooting, and repairs to company equipment during breakdowns.

Welding and fabrication skills including:

  • Arc and Mig welding
  • Plasma cutter
  • Aluminum welding

Maintain service schedule and records by company truck and equipment number.

Maintain & manage parts, filters, & supplies inventories.

Be willing to take on other projects and/or work elsewhere in the company if conditions require such as cleaning or delivering containers, working in the transfer station or recycle warehouse, driving truck, etc.

  • Provide excellent customer service if/when in contact with customers.

Perform all job functions with a safety-first attitude.

  • Housekeeping and maintaining a clean, organized shop in a TOP priority.
  • Shop will be clean and organized at the end of each day
  • Use all required personal protective equipment while working
  • Be familiar with chemicals used and hazardous materials training (MSDS)
  • Understand and use all Lockout/Tagout procedures while performing service and repair work
  • Be a member of the Company Safety Committee

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Diesel technology degree and/or minimum 5 years mechanic experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret documents such as parts, operation and maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, etc.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:

  • Valid Class A or B CDL with air brakes endorsement preferred.
  • CDL permit required within first 90 days of employment.
  • CDL license required within 1 year of employment.
