What you'll do:

As an Underwriting Team Lead you'll perform a review of Conventional (Conforming, Conforming-High Balance and Non-Conforming Jumbo) and Government (FHA, VA, and USDA) loans for specific issues such as appraisal, property flip, insurability, DTI, etc. Additionally, you'll be accountable for reviewing and clearing underwriting conditions on Conventional and Government loans in compliance with current guidelines and overlays.
  • Support Team and Management with special projects, initiatives, escalations, second level reviews, team or product SME and act as a back up supervisor.
  • Identify any document deficiencies, add applicable conditions, and request additional information and/or documentation from Clients as needed. Contact clients to provide updates and clarification on outstanding conditions and deficiencies identified on loans per established process.
  • Assist others in the department in interpreting underwriting guidelines and updating underwriting status and conditions to correspondent clients. Perform independent research of guidelines and overlays while reviewing loans.
  • Manage individual pipeline on a daily basis by completing underwriting reviews, conditions reviews and other underwriting tasks within established turn times.

What you'll need:

  • 5+ years of related experience in Mortgage Industry, Residential Mortgage Loan underwriting or similar field.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of residential mortgage industry in Correspondent or Retail Lending; including sales, operations, and/or other residential mortgage products and services.
  • Intermediate knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA and USDA Guidelines.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office products.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Encompass.
  • Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.
