The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager – Farm to play a key leadership role within our growing Farm Insurance business. You will provide strategic and operational leadership across the Farm underwriting function, leading a team of underwriters, serving as a senior referral point, and partnering with our national agent network to drive profitable and sustainable growth.

Your new role 

 A day in the role may look a bit like this: 

  • Set and execute the underwriting strategy for the Farm portfolio, balancing growth, profitability, and risk appetite.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of high performing underwriters, embedding strong leadership behaviours and underwriting discipline.
  • Act as a key referral point, underwriting complex new business and supporting agents with pricing, risk assessment, and policy interpretation.
  • Provide expert technical guidance across Farm Package insurance, including property, livestock, liability, and related farm risks.
  • Develop, maintain, and uplift underwriting guidelines and governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with a national agent network, applying technical expertise to support portfolio performance, operational objectives, and the successful delivery of change initiatives, including platform modernisation.

About you 

To be successful in this role, you will bring a combination of technical expertise, leadership capability, and industry knowledge, including:

  • Proven experience in Farm Package underwriting, or Business Package underwriting combined with strong practical exposure to the farming or rural sector.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing underwriting teams.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment, portfolio management, and pricing principles, including the use of risk profiling and pricing tools.
  • Practical farm or rural industry experience (e.g. living or working on a farm, agronomy, livestock, rural sales, agtech, or related fields) will be highly regarded.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, advise, and build trusted relationships with agents and internal partners.
  • A commercial mindset, with a focus on delivering profitable and sustainable outcomes.
