The opportunity

This Construction Underwriter role will see you underwrite new business and renewals often at higher complexity and/or volume within set underwriting guidelines, authority levels and service standards, while managing key portfolios/accounts with intermediaries. In this role you’ll focus on maintaining and enhancing broker/intermediary relationships to retain policies and grow the portfolio profitably.

Your new role

A day in the role may look a bit like this:

  • Contribute to shaping and executing the Business Unit’s plans for growth and performance.
  • Manage renewals and new business targets to achieve profitability and retention goals.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver sustainable, profitable outcomes.
  • Assess and underwrite complex risks within authority limits, policies, and standards.
  • Monitor underwriting practices, maintain legislative and industry knowledge, and identify opportunities and risks.
  • Develop trusted connections with brokers, customers, and colleagues while sharing knowledge to deliver innovative solutions.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have a proven background in the insurance industry with strong underwriting experience. You will also bring:

  • Proven years of relevant underwriting experience.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, specialist qualifications or equivalent.
  • Strong established customer / broker relationships
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant market conditions
  • Good knowledge of risk management, portfolio management and underwriting
