Underground Maintenance Planner – Mechanical

Where will you work: Onsite – Colonsay, Saskatchewan

(Colonsay is located approximately 42 miles from City of Saskatoon, with an average driving time of about 45 minutes)

About the role

The Underground Maintenance Planner (Mechanical) is a key technical resource responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and optimal performance of the ore delivery systems, ventilation systems and mobile equipment that support underground mining operations. This role provides strategic planning, coordination, and technical oversight for multidisciplinary maintenance teams, including:

  • Heavey Duty Mechanics (Diesel Bay)

  • Industrial Mechanics (High Bay)

  • Welders (High Bay)

What will you do?

Maintenance Planning & Scheduling 

  • Develop and maintain preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for the underground mine systems and equipment. 

  • Ensure availability of spare parts, tools, and labor for scheduled tasks. This may include sourcing, procuring and expediting materials outside of stock. 

  • Liaise with warehouse and procurement teams to align inventory with maintenance needs.  

  • Coordinate daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance plans to minimize downtime and support production goals.  

Shutdown Coordination 

  • Plan and coordinate multi discipline tasks during planned outages or shutdowns. 

  • Develop detailed schedules, labor requirements, and material plans to ensure efficient execution. 

Work Order Management 

  • Create, manage, and prioritize work orders using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). SAP 

  • Ensure work orders include accurate job scopes, required materials, labor estimates, and safety procedures.  

Technical Documentation 

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including job histories, schematics, and equipment manuals. 

  • Support root cause failure analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.  

Safety & Compliance 

  • Ensure all planned work complies with electrical codes, safety standards, site-specific programs/procedures and manufacturer recommendations.

  • Promote safe work practices and participate in safety audits and inspections.  

  • Participate in audits, inspections, and safety improvement activities. 

Team Collaboration 

  • Work closely with heavy-duty mechanics, industrial mechanics, welders, supervisors, and operations teams to align maintenance activities with production schedules.

  • Provide guidance and support to technicians during execution of complex electrical tasks.

What you’ll need:

  • 5-10 years’ experience in mine maintenance or a related field.

  • Journeyperson (Red Seal required) in a related trade or equivalent

  • Proficiency with MS Office, SAP/S4HANA, and other relevant software tools.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with proven leadership ability.

  • In-depth knowledge of underground electrical systems and equipment used in potash operation

  • Must be authorized to work in Canada.
