Undergrad Intern - R&D Operational Design Analytics

What You Will Do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. As an intern on the Operational Design Analytics (ODA) team, you’ll work alongside data engineers, data scientists, clinical operations experts, and technologists who are redefining how Amgen designs and executes clinical trials.

You’ll gain hands-on experience developing and applying advanced analytics to optimize trial design, execution, and oversight across Amgen’s global clinical development portfolio. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with groups including Amgen Technology & Medical Organizations (ATMOS), the Center for Design and Analysis (CfDA), and the Center for Observational Research (CfOR), helping translate clinical, operational, and real-world data into actionable insights.

Throughout the summer, you’ll also have opportunities to network with peers in the 2026 summer cohort, participate in professional development events, and engage with Amgen leaders shaping the future of biotechnology.

  • Supporting data-related initiatives such as curation, transformation, integration, and quality assessments for clinical and operational datasets.
  • Designing and implementing interactive visualizations using tools such as Tableau, Posit Workbench/Connect, or open-source frameworks (e.g., Streamlit, Shiny).
  • Contributing to predictive analytics initiatives that enhance trial feasibility assessments, forecast patient enrollment, and optimize global country selection.
  • Enhancing data pipelines and automation workflows to improve reproducibility, scalability, and transparency in analytic delivery.
  • Partnering with cross-functional stakeholders across ATMOS, CfDA, CfOR, and Operational Design to gather business requirements and build fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Supporting the evaluation or deployment of emerging AI and large language model (LLM) agents and applications for clinical trial optimization and analytics efficiency.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations and written summaries of your findings, demonstrating clear data storytelling and impact.

Basic Qualifications:

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergrad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

  • 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
  • Enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program following the potential internship with an accredited college or university
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
  • Student must be located in the United States for the duration of the internship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Data Science, Biostatistics, Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, Bioengineering, Epidemiology, Industrial Engineering, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience with data manipulation (e.g.: Python, R, SQL) and visualization tools (Tableau, R Shiny, Streamlit, or similar).
  • Strong interest in AI/ML, foundation models, LLMs/PLMs, and their application in clinical operations.
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment while maintaining strong communication and accountability.
  • Able to synthesize complex information, think critically, and communicate insights effectively to technical and non-technical audience.

The base pay range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $24.70 - $28.30 per hour
