GENERAL OVERVIEW:
This job performs prescribed Sonography procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment and initiative. Provides supervision of staff and area functions as well as serves as a physician liaison. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acts as a mentor for new staff and uses technical expertise to improve staff performance. Assists in the management of human resources (performance management), staff/equipment schedule, payroll, and non-labor expenses and activities for the department. Maintains a quality assurance program outlined by regulatory agencies to meet requirements. (40%)
- Performs all essential job responsibilities of an Ultrasound Technologist, including but not limited to performing age-specific diagnostic imaging per established protocols. Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, physicians and other team members. Addresses patient and physician concerns. Responds to adverse events and/or any changes with patient's status. (25%)
- Completes all required documentation for procedures, e.g. regulatory, billing protocol and image distribution. Maintains ACR certification and registries (if applicable). Implements and educates staff on all imaging institute policies, procedures, guidelines, and quality initiatives for Ultrasound modality. (20%)
- Implements patient safety standards and provides technical expertise for development of protocols. (15%)
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
- Associate’s degree or higher or Certification from a technical school; or six months to one year of relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of associate’s degree
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or Sonography-RT(S) or Vascular Sonography- RT(VS) certification and registration via the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Breast (BS) via the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) earned prior to 2011 or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) certification via Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is required within 12 months of hire. Technologists who have been performing ultrasound prior to and continuously since October 1996 AND have been evaluated by a responsible physician to assure competence are not required to obtain certification. Employees in an Ultrasound role prior to July 1, 2022 who do not have certifications are not required to obtain them.
- 3 years’ experience as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) required in two or more specialties
- CPR – American Heart Association
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree
- Previous leadership experience
