Job Description:
Your Mission:
At the center of the Flexrotor UAS is a complex web of systems that must work in perfect harmony. As our Senior Embedded Systems Engineer, you are the steward of that harmony. You will balance the "big picture" of systems integration with the precision of low-level embedded engineering.
We are looking for an architect who can build the robust datalinks and payload interfaces that give our aircraft its capabilities, while simultaneously perfecting the core software that serves as its pulse. If you are passionate about taking a proven platform to its next level of reliability and technical maturity, this is your role.
Meet The Team:
From building to servicing the next generation of aerospace, our team focuses on quality, productivity and efficiency. We ensure the highest quality of care and safety is built into each aircraft we assemble and maintain. Our team members make it happen.
Your Working Environment:
Nestled in the heart of the stunning Columbia River Gorge in Bingen, WA, our workplace offers innovation and the ability to contribute to game-changing solutions while enjoying the flexibility to spread your wings. Whether it's solving complex challenges, or celebrating victories, you’ll be part of a cohesive crew that thrives on innovation and the beauty that the Pacific Northwest has to offer!
How We Care for You:
Your Challenges:
Drone System Maturity & Reliability (30%)
Lead efforts to improve the overall maturity of the drone system by identifying and tracking risks, issues, and opportunities in software and system design.
Enhance system reliability through the implementation of robust fail-safes, error handling, and hardware-software diagnostic tools.
Continually troubleshoot and debug complex technical issues to ensure the Flexrotor operates reliably under diverse mission conditions.
Hardware, Software & Payload Interfacing (25%)
Design and maintain the electrical and software interfaces for specialized payloads, ensuring seamless power distribution and data acquisition.
Interpret electrical wiring diagrams and avionics schematics to resolve hardware-software dependencies.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure mission-level objectives are met through successful sensor and actuator integration.
HMI, User Interface & Tooling (20%)
Conceptualize and design modern HMI and user interfaces for ground control stations (GCS) and maintenance software.
Develop internal tooling and workflows to improve engineering efficiency in code review, repository management, and automation.
Ensure intuitive interaction between the operator and the aircraft to reduce cognitive load during complex missions.
Datalink & Communication Optimization (15%)
Manage and optimize on-board and ground-based communication systems, focusing on low-latency telemetry and robust command-and-control links.
Ensure secure and efficient data flow across various protocols (CAN, UART, TCP/UDP, and serial).
Flight Performance & Testing (10%)
Support flight envelope expansion and envelope protection by refining embedded control logic.
Utilize hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) environments to validate new features before they ever leave the ground.
Additional Responsibilities:
Qualified Experience and Training:
Your Boarding Pass:
B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Avionics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Control Systems Engineering.
Minimum ten (10) years of experience in aerospace, UAV, or mission-critical embedded systems.
