Northrop Grumman Manufacturing and Operations in Azusa, CA is seeking an environmental technician to join our environmental test operations team. This role will report on-site and will be represented by our bargaining unit union organization.

SUMMARY

Assist with plans for mechanical, electrical and instrumentation operations necessary to conduct environmental test activities. Perform maintenance of mechanical equipment and environmental tests using provided documentation. Work is performed with minimum supervision. Will be required to work using self-inspection as the guidelines for quality work within a team environment.

WORK PERFORMED

Performs complex environmental test on components and assemblies following test procedures and other written instructions. Observes and accumulates records, plots and charts data derived from tests. May use hand and power tools in the construction of test setups. Performs instrumentation functions necessary for test setups and test performance.

Assembles, disassembles, repairs, and makes minor modifications to internal precision mechanical mechanisms of vacuum test equipment, using hand and power tools. Works from drawings, sketches or written or verbal direction. Cleans equipment to required standards. Sets up and aligns mechanical portions of equipment and installs fixtures to an exacting degree of preciseness, using necessary measuring instruments.

Installs associated environmental plumbing hardware. Arranges and dismantles test apparatus. Works with test engineers to select specific types of electronic, electrical, and/or mechanical instrumentation or configurations required for testing. Installs and incorporates these requirements only on department owned equipment, only after the specific equipment power disconnect, and in full compliance with all applicable codes and standards.

Performs such environmental test such as, temperature, temperature-altitude, vibration, impact shock, and space environmental test. Must demonstrate computer literacy to the extent required to support these requirements. Maintains, modifies, and sets up mechanical equipment's and instrumentation of automatic and manual thermal vacuum systems. Must be able to perform helium leak detection operations. Works with test engineers to determine methods and sequences used to perform experimental assembly, test or diagnostic work for engineering, development and evaluation proposes. Performs monitor operations of hardware during environmental test activities. Support systems test personnel during test setups and post-test activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requires college/trade school with a minimum of 21 units of mathematics, chemistry, physics, electronic theory or mechanically-oriented classes. Normally six (6) years of related experience in setting up and performing environmental test. Requires a fundamental working knowledge of electrical theory and application. Must be able to perform all essential job functions and environmental/physical considerations per Employee Requisition. Must be able to acquire a security clearance (US Citizenship Required)
