PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Analyst product components to be machined on various large CNC/DNC and manual machine tools and specify tooling and fixtures required for optimum setup and machining. Evaluate the condition of returned tooling and initiate their refurbishment, etc. Responsible for the overall operation of the pre-stage system in the large machine shop.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Hand trucks, forklifts, pendant cranes, stackers, bins, racks, storage carousels, scales, computer terminals, hand tools, calipers, micrometers, height gages, etc.
MATERIAL:
A wide variety of tools and supplies, including jigs, fixtures, boring bars, special tooling, cutters, drills, reamers, etc.
DIRECTION OF OTHERS:
Guide and direct Pre-Stage Tool Setter and/or others assigned to help in the completion of duties.
WORKING PROCEDURE:
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE OF PAY FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.
Perform the duties of the Pre-Stage Tool Setter, perform the following:
Analyze product components to be machined on various large CNC/DNC and manual machine tools and specify tooling and fixtures required for setting up and machining new jobs. Monitor the preparation of pre-staged kits to ensure they are complete and on time. Order, expedite and maintain tooling inventory to ensure availability in accordance with manufacturing requirements. Attend production meetings and coordinate with supervisors, engineers, Production Control, Manufacturing Engineering and NC Programming to complete job eligibility and priority lists. Complete tool setup sheets, pick sheets, priority sheets and other sketches and documentation. Prepare product flow charts to describe when, where and which tooling and fixtures are needed for production. Evaluate the condition of returned tools, jigs, fixtures, boring bars, etc., and specify items needing refurbishment, replacement or modification. Coordinate with in-house toolmakers and tooling vendors to develop and order special tooling. Obtain direction from Methods Engineering and follow appropriate formats to assign tooling numbers to special and other tooling. Operate computer terminal to utilize existing programs and maintain integrity of database transactions including maintaining and entering tool numbers, tool locations, issues and returns, etc. Perform work of equal or lower code as required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent GED or Trade School Certificate.
Minimum 1 year experience in machine tool operation, such as manual Mills, Lathes and or CNC machining centers in a manufacturing environment.
Minimum 1 year experience with interpreting blueprints, sketches, manufacturing instructions and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
Minimum 1 year experience with the use of cutting tools such as end mills, drills, and taps.
Minimum 1 year experience with measuring instruments such as indicators, calipers, micrometers, bore micrometers, height gages, thread gauges and other hand tools.
US citizenship is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 2 years’ experience with machining; Horizontal Mill, Vertical mill, Vertical Lathe, Horizontal Lathe.
Minimum 2 years’ experience with set up of manual and or CNC Vertical and Horizontal Mill and Lathe, Offsets, Fixtures, Planer Jacks, Ground Blocks, etc.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in tool selection for tolerances within .0002” inches.
