About this role

Dow has an exciting opportunity for an experienced polyurethane formulator in rigid foams to join our product and application development team as a Technical Service and Development Scientist located at Dow’s Polyurethanes Business Headquarters in Marietta, GA. As a part of this team, you will lead technical interactions with customers to understand their needs and then collaborate across technical, commercial and manufacturing functions to deliver solutions and provide technical knowledge on the use, handling and management of Dow products to our customers.


In this role, you will work independently and also in collaboration with other scientists to apply the scientific method and general business knowledge to develop business cases and create new products which meet the growth objectives, performance needs and sustainability goals of Dow and its customers in rigid polyurethane foam applications. You will play a pivotal role in providing technical support for the trials of products, troubleshooting application challenges at customers' locations as well as the scale-up of new products from our laboratory to production assets. Attention to detail and effective communication skills with cross-functional teams will be critical to your success.

Responsibilities – Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role

  • Designs value-creating solutions for the customer in response to presented problems with defined scope and impact
  • Develops hypotheses, plans & executes experiments, interprets results, and modifies hypotheses appropriately
  • Provides technical support for the trial and use of Dow products at customer locations and the scale-up of new products within Dow
  • Collaborates effectively across research, commercial, supply chain and manufacturing departments
  • Participates in the generation of ideas and data to support the development of intellectual capital and effectively protects Dow’s intellectual capital when working with customers
  • Engages in external professional organizations to stay abreast of technology and market trends as well as representing the Dow Polyurethanes brand
  • Communicates and appropriately documents work in the form of internal reports and presentations

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or an applied science related field (Ex. Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering, etc.) or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E5 ranking or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant.
  • Minimum 6 years’ relevant working experience (leading projects, formulating and commercializing rigid foam polyurethane products in continuous and discontinuous rigid foam applications)
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of Creativity, Innovation, and Project Management 
  • Problem Solving Skills and Mechanical Aptitude a plus 
  • Experience in providing technical support to customers 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Previous experience working on a project team 
  • Cross-functional and/or cross-geography experience 

Note: This position requires approximately 30% travel.
