Job Summary
This is an apprentice level position. The duties are to assist in performing service work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities; drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment. Assist in responding to trouble calls, investigating, correcting, and clearing trouble, and provide assistance to construction and repair crews, as required. The following list sets forth the principal duties required for the job. All items apply to overhead and underground, as applicable. This list is not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions. Education requirements are listed below: High School graduate or General Equivalency Degree (GED).
Work Experience requirement listed below: Minimum of one year distribution electrical power line work experience, OR one year of related line experience defined as: successful completion of a one year electrical power line school certificate plus a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience, or an Associate degree from an electrical power line school which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience.
Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below: Valid Class A Commercial Driver License.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Physical demand level is Heavy
1) Must have the ability and desire to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities of the key job (Service Mechanic A, within the time frame determined by the Company, in this family and be qualified through demonstration, examination and/or performance appraisal or vacate the current job classification.
2) Must have a good working knowledge of various circuit connections, voltage identification of lines, phasing, transformer connections and switching devices. Must know the fundamentals of electricity and have the ability to interpret field prints and switching diagrams, simple blueprints, one-line diagrams, instruction manuals and construction drawings.
3) Must possess the ability to deal with employees, customers and the general public in a courteous and proper manner.
4) Must have the ability to use a computer and electronic devices and write legibly and record accurately.
5) Must be able to distinguish colors.
6) Must have the ability to work aloft on poles, towers and structures, use various tools, and operate equipment and finger manipulation of bolts/screws, etc.
7) Tolerate awkward or stretched positions while working aloft and suspended from safety belt.
8) Must be able to work at heights of up to 250 feet.
9) Must be able to lift 75lbs. overhead.
10) Must demonstrate familiarity with Company safety rules and practices and be proficient in the application of resuscitation and first aid.
11) Must possess the ability to plan work and to properly instruct others.
12) This role requires regular overtime and on-call response. Travel, including out of town travel, may also be required.

$34.69 - $58.51The Physical Demand Level for this job is: H – Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
