Job Description:

The Manager, ALM Strategic Initiatives and Reporting, reports directly to the Senior Manager, ALM Strategic Initiatives and Regulatory Reporting. This role will be responsible for supporting various ad hoc initiatives related to non-trading market risk reporting and streamlining processes.

The Manager will support ALM Reporting Team in reviewing the end-to-end reporting process for opportunities to optimize and streamline the content and process. Additionally, the Manager will be a point of contact and coordination for the ALM Reporting Team during the design, testing and implementation of the new risk system in TBSM (QRM). They will work with a cross-functional working group to deliver requirements, test the outputs provided by the QRM Team, and help update the current reporting processes and reports, to support the usage of the new risk engine.

It is the responsibility of the candidate to work closely with the ALM Reporting team and all the key areas of TBSM to ensure all risk reporting aspects and requirements are:

  • Fully understood by all stakeholders
  • Documented in a clear and consistent framework
  • Developed with appropriate oversight, testing and reporting
  • Implemented in a timely manner

In keeping with these requirements, the incumbent will need to foster strong relationships with senior members of various areas across TBSM and the broader TDBG.  These relationships will be key to developing understanding, resolving issues and implementing change.

Department Overview

Treasury and Balance Sheet Management (TBSM) manages TD Bank's non-trading market risk, Funds Transfer Pricing, consolidated liquidity risk (trading and non-trading) and capital positions. In addition, TBSM operates the Bank's funding, securitization, and capital management programs, and is responsible for the Bank's investment portfolios.

The Asset Liability Management (ALM) team within TBSM is responsible for designing strategies to hedge non-trading market rate risk in the Bank. The team also partners with the Market Risk Measurement and Analytics (MRMA) team and the ALM Methodologies Team to ensure appropriate measurement of market risk in the banking book. The team's mandate includes:

  • Development and performance of effective ALM management strategies
  • Development and performance of effective Hedge Accounting strategies
  • Design of the target interest rate and foreign exchange sensitivity profile
  • Development and maintenance of the Non-Trading Market Risk policy framework
  • Ensuring appropriate measurement of non-trading market risk
  • Regulatory and Management non-trading market risk reporting.

Job Requirements

Specific Accountabilities

  • Understand the risk reporting processes end to end
  • Identify opportunities for simplification, controls enhancements and automation
  • Update the reports, using advanced data management tools
  • Coordinate and liaise with the QRM team in the implementation of all required changes

Specific Educational Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Math is required, a graduate level degree is preferred
  • CPA designation (preferred, but not required)
  • CFA (preferred, but not required)

Other Qualifications / Skills / Expertise:

  • Experience dealing with large datasets, scrutinizing the data and summarizing it in a meaningful way
  • Ability to understand the drivers of the reported metric and tell the story in a succinct and meaningful manner.
  • Advanced usage of SQL, Python, Tableau and Power BI
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly with Senior Management
  • Strong financial instruments background with relevant technical and valuation experience
  • Capital markets experience, and good knowledge of derivative and cash products
  • Experience in the financial services industry is preferred
  • Excellent project management, analytical and problem-resolution and consensus building skills
  • Must be able to think conceptually (“out-of-the-box”) and have a high degree of attention for detail
  • Proactive and highly motivated individual with an inquisitive mind who will take the initiative and who can work independently and in a team environment
