State Street

Treasury Management/Wealth Custody & Clearing, VP

BOSTON Full time
Who we are looking for

Join State Street’s Client organization as a Vice President to build and lead a new retirement operations capability from the ground up. You will design the end-to-end contribution intake, reconciliation, and error processing model, establish control frameworks, and orchestrate cross-functional execution with Technology, Compliance, and our Custody & Clearing teams. Your work will directly support safe, scalable retirement contribution flows and transparent reporting to clients and regulators. You will also manage key partners to ensure successful product delivery and alignment with client needs.

Why this role is important to us

You’ll shape a mission-critical capability that strengthens retirement outcomes for clients while elevating operational resilience across Client operations. You’ll work with leaders and partners who value rigorous controls, data transparency, and client trust—backed by the scale and resources of a global institution.

What you will be responsible for

  • Stand up retirement contribution operations: Define SOPs, runbooks, and SLAs for contribution ingestion, settlement, reconciliation, and exception handling.
  • Architect contribution error-processing: Build robust identification, queueing, remediation, and client notification processes for excess/incorrect contributions.
  • Design controls & surveillance: Implement reconciliations, variance analysis, and contribution-surveillance routines to flag anomalies and AML/KYC risks.
  • Enable data & reporting: Establish standardized reporting for Client and state-level stakeholders; define real-time vs. delayed views, data aggregation, and audit evidence retention.
  • Orchestrate ecosystem integrations: Coordinate with trustees/custodians, payroll providers, and data-sharing partners to ensure straight-through processing.
  • Own regulatory readiness: Ensure operational alignment to IRA rules and related forms (e.g., 1099-R), remediation standards, and documentation for examinations.
  • Drive stakeholder alignment: Partner with Wealth Custody & Clearing, Risk, Finance, Technology, and Client Service on priorities, metrics, and change management.
  • Manage partners for product delivery: Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners, ensuring collaborative product development, timely delivery, and alignment with client expectations.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree required or relevant experience; graduate degree preferred.
  • 10+ years in banking or client operations with deep IRA/retirement product knowledge (traditional & Roth), contribution rules, reconciliations, and exception/error processing.
  • Proven record building functions from scratch (greenfield or major transformation), including SOPs, SLAs, staffing, and control design.
  • Hands-on with reconciliations/variance analysis, contribution surveillance, and AML/KYC operational risk management.
  • Fluency with data and reporting (Excel/BI), operational evidence, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Strong vendor and ecosystem integration experience (custodians/trustees, payroll providers), runbook creation, and operational launch rehearsals.
  • Executive communication, stakeholder management, and people leadership skills; ability to set strategy and roll up sleeves.
  • Experience integrating with major payroll providers and benefits platforms; familiarity with trustee certification/rollover mechanics experience is preferred.
