Job Summary: This vacancy is for a GS-1801-14, Traveling Marine Inspector located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Traveling Inspector Staff, G-5P-TI in Washington, District of Columbia.

Major Duties:

  • You will serve as a Traveling Marine Inspector and be responsible for performing marine inspections, participating in marine related investigations, and conducting oversight of international Safety Management (ISM) Code audit of recognized organizations and third-party organizations on behalf of the United States Coast Guard. Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include: Assisting with the management of national compliance programs for commercial vessel safety and security programs. Advising senior officials (such as Officers in Charge Marine Inspections and marine industry leaders) on domestic and international regulations and safety compliance of U.S. vessels. Analyzing new engineering technologies, ensuring full compliance with regulatory standards. Facilitating lectures or training sessions on compliance and enforcement of commercial vessel standards. Serving as a representative to technical and advisory groups that oversee the administration and establishment of commercial vessel inspection programs. Performing various safety methods to check compliance and performance of third-party commercial vessel safety through inspections, investigations and audits. Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis. Specialized experience must include the following: Performing inspections, investigations or audits to ensure compliance of maritime vessel safety and security. Providing guidance to senior management and staff on rules and regulations relating to national and international marine vessel safety and security. Analyzing engineering technologies (including systems and programs) for process improvements. Facilitating lectures or training sessions on compliance and enforcement of commercial vessel standards at the national level. Applying auditing strategies for maritime safety and security vessel operation and management for national and international standards.
