This role serves as a key analytical and decision‑making partner to the Transportation and Sourcing Manager within the VELUX Transportation and Logistics organization. The position is responsible for independently evaluating carrier performance, shaping sourcing decisions, supporting logistics strategy, and ensuring efficient, cost‑effective movement of commercial and residential shipments. The role exercises discretion and judgment in matters related to transportation operations, pricing strategies, carrier selection, customer requirements, and network efficiency, contributing directly to VELUX’s service quality, cost control, and operational excellence.

This position must be located in Greenwood, SC.

Monthly Salary Range: $4673 - $5841

Primary Functions

  • Independently analyze carrier performance, identifying root causes of service failures and recommend corrective actions. Responsible for weekly performance reports; support tender processes and benchmarking of service, price, and KPIs across carriers and lanes.
  • Conduct detailed evaluation of transportation pricing and total landed costs for commercial and residential shipments; contribute insights to logistics projects such as carrier rationalization, intermodal expansion, and palletization standards.
  • Source carriers through daily bids, ensuring selections balance service quality, cost competitiveness, and contract compliance.
  • Apply negotiation skills to secure competitive rates and ensure compliance with VELUX standards.
  • Exercise discretion in quoting and coordinating freight activities for:
    • Commercial & VMS: LTL, volume LTL, flatbeds, and full truckloads from the Central DC to end customers and production facilities (e.g., Wells and Sparks).
    • Residential: Larger palletized skylight orders delivering to dealers or job sites; ensure accurate class/weight, accessorials, and delivery requirements.
  • Plan outbound movements by working with Inventory Control to schedule shipments from the Central Distribution Center to Regional Distribution Centers for both residential replenishment and commercial orders.
  • Maintain cost accuracy by entering truckload costs in SAP for bi-monthly uploads; provide freight estimates for future shipments (commercial and residential).
  • Develop and sustain strong professional carrier relationships; monitor contract adherence and recommend performance interventions as needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally (Customer Service, Commercial Sales, Inventory Control, DC Operations) to secure on-time, damage-free deliveries:
    • Obtain proof of delivery (PODs) and handle re-consignments when required.
    • Update SAP customer notes for changes in planned ship dates and align on customer-requested adjustments for both residential and commercial orders.
  • Communicate proactively with internal stakeholders and external carriers to ensure clarity on ETAs, delivery requirements, and exceptions, maintaining high customer service standards across both segments.
  • Contact commercial customers to verify delivery requirements and special needs for shipments.
  • Audit and approval of freight invoices, identifying discrepancies and initiating resolution with carriers and internal partners.
  • Update fuel surcharges in Progistics (TMS) on a weekly basis to reflect current market conditions and contractual agreements.

Secondary Functions:

  • Contacting customers to verify delivery requirements or needs, for commercial shipments.
  • Tracking and reporting of carrier delivery performance.
  • Creating and maintaining logistics files in Microsoft Teams.
  • Ensure accuracy of shipping weights, notes, and classifications on all commercial orders in SAP.
  • Updating Fuel Surcharges in Progistics (TMS) weekly.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Minimum three years of experience in Freight Management, Logistics, or Supply Chain including negotiation.
  • Working knowledge of freight tariffs, accessorial charges and freight class is required.
  • Occasional overnight travel to regional Distribution Centers may be required.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and strong working knowledge of MS Office; familiarity with SAP preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are a must.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and operate with a high level of independence.
  • Strong analytical ability combined with sound business judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to influence decisions across stakeholder groups.
  • Must possess an overall good work record and desire to work in a team environment.
