Transportation Planner (Co-op)

Woodbridge, Ontario Full time

Position Summary:

The Transportation Planner Co-op Role will report directly to the Manager of Traffic & Planning, and will assume responsibility for preparing traffic and planning reports, as well as generating data-driven insights through the processing, modelling, analysis, and interpretation of transportation, mobility, and spatial datasets.

Position Responsibility:

  • Assist senior planners with traffic reporting, including daily traffic summaries, monthly management reports, and quarterly traffic summaries.

  • Utilize state-of-the-art Location Based Services datasets, including Inrix, Streetlight Data, and others, to research traffic mobility trends and metrics with a special focus on the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

  • Prepare presentation materials as required for all areas of responsibility.

  • Support transportation forecasting network demand model and run analysis of network and land use scenarios as necessary.

  • Assist in the preparation of the 407 ETR Annual Highway Safety Review to support Highway Operations safety reporting, identify areas for improvement.

  • Review and assess traffic impact studies and developments affecting the 407 ETR corridor and prepares reports with recommendations to the Manager and Senior Planner

  • Undertakes, coordinates and reviews studies, research projects and data analysis as required relating to transportation in the region

Qualifications:

  • Studies in Transportation Planning, Urban Geography, and/or Transportation Technology.

  • Familiarity with Tableau and other Business Intelligence Data Management Software.

  • Familiarity with travel demand forecasting (EMME) is preferable.

  • Capabilities in GIS and graphical applications are an asset.

  • Well-developed research and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills and a strong work ethic.

  • Ability to interact with colleagues in a positive manner within a self-managed team structure.
