Job Summary: The incumbent serves as a Transportation Assistant - Transportation Coordinator acts as primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs. The incumbent works with the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) Supervisory Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, and quality improvement implementation, modification of processes, evaluation, and ongoing operational flow of the Veteran Transportation Services program.
Major Duties:
Qualifications: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/09/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the administrative coordination of all patient transportation for the Veterans Administrative Health Care System. This includes, but is not limited to; Commercial Air, Wheel Chair Van, Stretcher Van, Regular Van, Contract Special Mode and Taxi transportation. Determine patient needs, entitlements, eligibility and travel requirements for patient transportation. Coordinates stretcher van, wheelchair van, taxi and/or ambulatory transport schedules corresponding with authorized transportation requests. Plans and arranges for commercial or contracted transport. Determines driver availability. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Coordinate and advises administrative and clinical staff regarding bed confirmation, transfer of records, transportation availability and approval criteria relating to transfer to other facilities. Coordinates patient movement activities between Veterans Transportation Network, Patient Travel and Engineering drivers. Your experience must be documented in your resume. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary; however, some walking and standing may be required. Work Environment: Work is performed in a medical center setting where there can be contact with patients who may have emotional disorders as well as a communicable disease. There is hectic interaction with other staffing the office. which may cause anxiety as well as mental and emotional stress. HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities. As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law.
