The Transportation Analyst plays a critical role in designing, optimizing, and supporting O’Reilly’s multi‑fleet transportation network. This role blends strategic network optimization, transportation systems ownership, and advanced data analytics to support DOT, City Counter, Hub, and Retail delivery operations across the enterprise.
This analyst supports leadership and senior analysts by providing accurate analysis, operational insights, and reporting that enable informed transportation decisions and continuous improvement.
Transportation Strategy & Network Optimization
Support annual and quarterly route rebids across all distribution centers, including mileage, equipment, driver requirements, and service trade‑offs.
Perform what‑if scenario analysis for store openings, network shifts, DC capacity changes, and fleet growth.
Partner with Network Optimization resources to validate routing outputs and identify optimization opportunities.
Evaluate routing and optimization software solutions (strategic, tactical, and execution‑level tools).
Fleet Management, Telematics & Technology
Support fleet management platforms related to vehicle assets, inspections, maintenance visibility, and compliance.
Serve as an analytical support resource for telematics and ELD platforms, including data validation, reporting, and operational insights.
Assist with configuration support, testing, and validation of fleet‑related system enhancements, integrations, and updates.
Participate in vendor discovery, demos, pilots, and evaluations for fleet management, telematics, and related transportation technology.
Assist with documenting system behaviors, operational issues, and business requirements related to fleet and driver operations.
Data Analytics & Reporting
Develop and maintain advanced analytical models supporting:
Mileage, cost, MPG, and productivity metrics
Driver and equipment utilization
On‑time performance and service metrics
Build automated dashboards and reporting using SQL‑based data sources and visualization tools.
Partner with Data & Analytics teams to source, validate, and automate transportation data pipelines.
Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for leadership.
Financial & Business Analysis
Conduct cost‑benefit and ROI analysis for transportation initiatives and technology investments.
Support budgeting and forecasting efforts related to miles, drivers, equipment, and software.
Perform variance analysis against budget, bid, and operational expectations.
Cross‑Functional & Project Support
Collaborate with Distribution Operations, Store Operations, IT, Finance, and external vendors.
Support compliance‑driven initiatives (FMCSA and applicable federal, state, and local regulations).
Assist with special projects, incident reviews, and executive‑level briefings.
Contribute to SOP development, process documentation, and training materials.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
3–5+ years of experience in transportation analytics, systems, or network optimization.
Strong proficiency in SQL and advanced data analysis.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (complex formulas, data modeling; VBA a plus).
Experience working with fleet management systems, telematics/ELD platforms, and routing tools.
Ability to manage multiple initiatives and priorities independently.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to support executive‑level discussions.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with fleet management or maintenance systems (CMMS or similar platforms).
Exposure to routing and optimization solutions (strategic and operational).
Experience with DOMO, Snowflake, or comparable analytics platforms.
Familiarity with iSeries / IBM i SQL environments.
Experience supporting pilots, system rollouts, or RFP processes.
Education or experience in project management, user testing, or change management.
