SCOPE OF POSITION

The Pharmacy Technician Team Manager is responsible for the supervision, management and training activities of the department’s Pharmacy Technicians. This includes orientation, training, education, scheduling, hiring and administering performance appraisals, and corrective action and/or progressive discipline.

The Transitions of Care (TOC) Pharmacy Technician team promotes a culture of safety by adhering to all hospital and department rules, regulations and requirements including those outlined in the Medication List Documentation and Reconciliation policy, education videos, and Standard Operating Procedures.

POSITION SUMMARY

Works under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager, Assistant Director, or Associate Director responsible for the Transitions of Care (TOC) pharmacy technician team. Has the responsibility for maintaining appropriate staffing levels including coordination of area assignments and monthly technician schedules. Works with OSUMC Human Resources for hiring pharmacy technicians and coordinating the orientation process for all new pharmacy technicians. Develops training materials for new employees and coordinates ongoing education for pharmacy technicians. Organizes and administers pharmacy technician annual performance appraisals. Assists with the application of the technician career ladder and associated required documentation. Ensures documentation of initial and annual competencies. Serves as a liaison between pharmacy technicians and pharmacy administration. Works with OSUMC Department of Human Resources regarding matters associated

with corrective action or progressive discipline. Assists with the implementation of operational policy changes affecting technical staff. Coordinates quality assurance and productivity monitoring and serves on appropriate pharmacy committees. Maintains regulatory compliance in pharmacy areas of oversight.

The TOC Pharmacy Technician team provides a valuable patient-centered service by focusing on facilitating TOC, including obtaining and documenting a complete and accurate admission medication history and allergy information in the electronic medical record (EMR) as well as assisting with the discharge medication process. The TOC Pharmacy Technician completes the admission medication history during an inpatient admission, ambulatory encounter, pre-admission testing, surgery encounter, or within a procedural area under the supervision of a pharmacist, physician, or advance practice provider. Information can be gathered from a face-to-face or telehealth interview with the patient chart and communication with patients, caregivers, physicians, retail pharmacies, and long-term care facilities. Throughout the hospital admission, the TOC Pharmacy Technician is responsible for collaborating with the patient and care team to facilitate discharge, which includes communicating options for discharge medications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

For Hire: Bachelor Degree and/or combination of education and experience, active OH Board of Pharmacy Certified Pharmacy Technician registration, PTCB/NHA certification, 3 years of pharmacy experience. Candidate must have the ability to work full time.
