Position Summary
Reporting to the Service Design Planner, Transit, the Transit Planning & Data Analyst Co-op Student supports the planning, analysis, implementation, and monitoring of Milton Transit services. This role collaborates with internal staff across planning, operations, engineering, communications, and customer service to gather data, perform analysis, conduct fieldwork, and assist in producing operational materials.

  • Analyze ridership, demographic, land use, and geographic data.

  • Develop and maintain Excel spreadsheets, databases, and data tracking tools.

  • Assist with GTFS data validation, schedule checks, and performance dashboards.

  • Maintain GIS-based bus stop inventory and route network maps.

  • Conduct field investigations as they relate to Milton Transit including site inspections and field surveys; document passenger amenities inventory

  • Provide a variety of administrative and technical services to support the business which may include preparing reports, memos, documents; sorting, collating and filing

  • Assist with the production and formatting of operational documentation (e.g. public-facing and internal materials)

  • Recommend process improvements

  • Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders for data and operational support.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Planning, Geography, Transportation, Urban Studies, Data Science or related program at a post-secondary institution. Students must be enrolled in a full-time program and returning to school for the Fall semester. 

  • Valid Ontario G Driver’s License in good standing

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills

  • Computer literacy with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and assist co-workers with projects

  • Interest in transportation and transit/operational planning

  • A willingness to learn while being exposed to all aspects of Operational Planning & Service Design

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ArcGIS and R Studio programs is considered an asset
