Summary:
Ensures the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance of all blood transfusion practices across the continuum of care—from ordering and specimen collection through administration and post transfusion monitoring.
Serves as an expert resource for transfusion medicine and patient safety, collaborating with Nursing, Transfusion Medicine, Pathology, Anesthesiology, Surgery, Oncology, and Quality/Patient Safety to reduce risk, prevent errors, and optimize patient outcomes. Supports the development of a Patient Blood Management (PBM) program, oversees compliance activities, assists in creating and evaluating transfusion-related policies, and leads performance improvement initiatives that enhance safety, efficiency, and evidence-based utilization.
Functions with a relatively high degree of autonomy and serves as a key liaison across clinical, medical, and administrative teams.
In this position, the incumbent has authority to make decisions or commitments that require interpretation of the organization's policies and procedures of a broad nature, usually requiring consultation with superiors for their recommendations. In this capacity it is typical that more difficult decisions are referred to superiors for their clinical consultation and recommendation to ensure we maintain the highest level of patient care.
The starting annual salary for this position is $96,336 with an additional geographic differential range of $19,143 to $20,160 dependent on education and certifications. This can include a full comprehensive benefits package.

Required Education and Experience
License and Certification Requirements
License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
Education and Experience
1.Master's degree in nursing and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time acute care clinical experience (e.g., ICU, ED, OR, Oncology, perioperative) with direct transfusion exposure or transfusion services/quality/patient safety experience; or
2.Bachelor's degree in nursing and the equivalent of five (5) years of full-time acute care clinical experience (e.g., ICU, ED, OR, Oncology, perioperative) with direct transfusion exposure or transfusion services/quality/patient safety experience.
NOTE:
Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.
