The role is based in Burton on Trent, home to the production of the country’s beloved Marmite, Bovril, Hellmann’s Mayonnaise and Colman’s Mustard and Condiments.
JOB PURPOSE
As the Training & Development Lead, you will drive the training, skills, and capability agenda across the factory. You will design, implement, and continuously improve learning solutions that enhance team member skills and support business performance. This role requires strong interpersonal skills and close collaboration with cross‑functional teams to ensure training initiatives are effective, relevant, and embedded within operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The role of training lead is a busy and varied one. Your main role will be to:
Lead the skills development agenda for factory, owning and continuously improving training and upskilling processes
Govern, manage, and continuously improve the training and skills matrix process
Partner with production leaders and key stakeholders to refine and enhance training programs
Track training needs and provide proactive training prompts for training needs
Review, update and maintain accurate skills matrices and training records
Create and maintain meaningful and visible training reports and KPI’s as required
Coordinate all training courses – booking and scheduling, course materials and communications, invites and evaluation and accurate recording within the LMS
Act as a point of contact for vendors and participants
Managing of training budget, ensuring cost effective delivery and value for money
Support additional tasks and projects as required to meet site objectives
ALL ABOUT YOU
You will be a proactive, organised individual who is comfortable working in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment and engaging with teams at all levels.
Experience & Skills:
Proven experience supporting or leading training systems within a manufacturing environment or similar setting
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure
Ability to work independently, showing initiative and ownership
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
Previous experience with learning content creation platforms such as Easygenerator, Animaker or any other digital content authoring tool
Experience using a Learning Management System, ideally Workday Learning
Self‑motivated, flexible, and motivated by continuous improvement.

Recruitment Fraud
Cyber criminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money. In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.
How is Unilever tackling this?
Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.
