1Undertakes field investigations related to traffic operations, parking, traffic control signals, pavement markings and road construction
Conducts site inspections for traffic safety and operational concerns from the public and council, sign deficiencies, and traffic control signal operational issues and makes recommendations for improvements
Reviews Traffic Control Plans for roadworks to ensure they align with OTM Book 7 Guidelines
Administers annual pavement marking program including updating GIS database and inspecting work by outside contractor
Administers annual sign inventory and retro reflectivity program
Administers permits for Oversize Load, Road Occupancy, Filming, Special Events, Banners and Street Parties
Develops traffic signal timing and coordination plans for existing and new signalized intersections
Responsible for ensuring all electrical traffic equipment (Driver Feedback Board, Radar Units) are in working order and trouble shoots with vendors when necessary
Determines need for new traffic control devices on municipal roadways through data analysis
Analyzes traffic data and conducts warrants through Traffic Engineering Software ensuring they meet industry standards
Maintains the Traffic Engineering Database (TES) to ensure all traffic study and collision data is up to date
Recommends implementation of all-way stops, signals and pedestrian crossovers
Administers and reviews automated traffic recorder program (ATR)
Authors written correspondence and reports to Council, and the general public related to traffic engineering including preparation of technical recommendations
Prepares reports and by-law amendments for approval by Manager, Traffic
Corresponds with outside agencies (Halton Regional Police, School Boards) related to traffic operations and safety initiatives
Three (3) year post-secondary diploma in Transportation Engineering Technology
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in traffic operations (signs and markings, traffic safety, signals etc.) preferably in a municipal environment
Full membership and registration with Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or ability to obtain certification
Knowledge of Traffic Engineering Software (TES), Synchro, AutoCAD, Miovision
A good understanding of municipal traffic operation principles, engineering standards, field-related resource materials such as the Geometric Road Design Guide (TAC), Ontario Traffic Manuals, Highway Traffic Act
Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment and to meet multiple deadlines
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of GIS is preferred
