What We Offer

This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work 37-39 hours per week and no more than 39 hours per week. The pay range for this position is $22.53-$33.80. New hires are typically brought into the organization at $26.00/hour. This position is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.

Location & Schedule

In this position you can expect to work on site at Denver International Airport (parking is provided)

  • Schedule: Sunday-Wednesday OR Wednesday-Saturday

  • Shifts consist of three (3) 10-hour days and one (1) 9-hour day

  • Shifts will accommodate school schedule

  • Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to change

Denver International Airport is seeking a skilled Plumber Apprentice to join our Trades Program. This individual will serve in a formal, four-year training program as a skilled trades apprentice, participates in on-the-job training and classroom instruction and learns the methods, procedures, tools and equipment to become a journeyman carpenter, electrician, heavy equipment mechanic, HVAC specialist, painter and plumber.

The City and County of Denver’s Apprenticeship Program with DEN offers several benefits, including:

  • Working with experienced members of the team to gain knowledge of Service, Commercial, and Industrial plumbing.

  • Maintains a 2.0 GPA and above throughout your schooling.

  • After completing four years in our apprenticeship program, DEN apprentices can test for their Journeyman Plumbers License.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Performs preventative maintenance, maintenance, and repair work on all plumbing systems and fixtures in accordance with agency or department standards and code requirements.

  • Installs or alters new or upgraded plumbing systems and fixtures for the purpose of construction, tenant finishing or remodeling according to diagram specifications and code requirements.

  • Responds to plumbing service or trouble calls, troubleshoots, and provides problem resolution.

  • Inspects, maintains, and repairs various types of fire protection systems.

  • Maintains, tests, and installs devices to prevent backflow, back siphonage or cross connection.

  • Prepares working sketches and works from blueprints and written or verbal instructions.

  • Maintains records and prepares daily activity reports.

  • Estimates materials, labor, and equipment costs.

  • Assists in the maintenance and repair work in various skilled trades areas. For example, working with Building/Electrical/HVAC.

  • Document works hours and tasks.

  • Learns to identify, use and maintain tools and equipment used in the trade.

  • Trains in and comply with standard safety rules and procedures common to trade.

  • Trains In keeping routine records, writing reports and completing forms.

  • Employees may be re-deployed to work in other capacities in their own agencies or in other City agencies to support core functions of the City during a City-wide emergency declared by the Mayor.

  • Any one position may not include all of the duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent in performing the essential duties listed above.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Two (2) or more years’ experience in large scale facility maintenance.

  • Experience teaching or training entry-level electrician.

  • Experience with reading and following schematics.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products and excellent computer skills.

  • Availability for shift work, weekends, and holidays.

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate

  • Experience Requirement: None

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: None

  • Licensures/Certification(s): This job requires driving. A valid driver's license is required at the time of application

Additional Information

FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.

Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts
