As a trackside electronics technician at Mercedes‑AMG Petronas Formula One Team, you will play a critical role in delivering reliable, high‑performance electronic systems in one of the most demanding environments in world sport. Working directly at race and test events, you will be responsible for building, maintaining and troubleshooting on‑car and garage electronics, ensuring systems operate flawlessly under extreme time pressure. This role requires exceptional technical skill, calm decision‑making and the ability to react instantly to complex problems where every second matters. You will work closely with engineers and the Trackside Electronics Leader, contributing directly to car performance, reliability and the team’s competitive success on the global stage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building and maintaining the on car electronic systems.

  • Building and maintaining the garage electrical systems and off-car equipment.

  • Troubleshooting problems with the cars and finding on-the-spot solutions.

  • Reporting to the Trackside Electronics Leader the performance and problems of the on and off car electronic systems.

  • 18th edition electrical installation training would be valuable.

  • Familiarity with commonly used motorsport connector systems is essential (AD, Lemo etc…)

  • Experience with Raychem system 25 wiring loom installation and handling is essential.

  • Attendance at race and test events, which involves spending a considerable amount of time away from home.

  • Ability to react quickly and follow a problem through to a solution in a racing time scale is critical.

Please be aware that the successful candidate will be required to attend race and test events, which involves spending a considerable amount of time away from home. 

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience building, installing and maintaining on‑car electronic systems in a motorsport or high‑performance automotive environment.

  • Strong hands‑on experience with motorsport connector systems, including Autosport (AD), LEMO, and similar high‑reliability connectors.

  • Demonstrated experience working with TE Connectivity / Raychem System 25 wiring looms, including loom installation, routing, protection and handling best practice.

  • Solid understanding of automotive and motorsport electrical systems, including power distribution, sensors, actuators and data networks.

  • Strong fault‑finding and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose electrical issues quickly under time pressure.

  • Ability to work calmly and decisively in a trackside environment, reacting rapidly and following problems through to resolution within racing time constraints.

  • Good practical skills in the use of electrical tools, test equipment and diagnostic software (e.g. multimeters, continuity testers).

  • Clear and concise technical communication skills, with the ability to report system performance and issues accurately to the Trackside Electronics Leader.

  • Willingness and flexibility to travel and attend race and test events, including extended periods away from home.

  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach while maintaining the pace required in a competitive motorsport setting.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • 18th Edition Electrical Installation qualification or formal electrical installation training.

  • Experience building and maintaining garage electrical systems and off‑car equipment, including power distribution and infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with additional motorsport standards and practices such as harness manufacturing, labelling, documentation and revision control.

  • Experience working within a race team or trackside support environment, understanding event pressures and operational workflows.

  • Knowledge of data acquisition systems, logging equipment or ECU‑related electronics.

  • Ability to support continuous improvement of electrical systems, reliability and serviceability.

  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior technicians or assisting with team‑wide best practice.
