Team rubicon international

TR Medical Reserve Corps (Volunteer)

As Assigned Full Time

Position Overview

Team Rubicon is partnering with the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) to build a pre-vetted team of qualified medical providers in Colorado. Under the leadership of TR’s medical lead for West Branch, this volunteer initiative focuses on supporting MRC missions coordinated through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). These missions differ from Team Rubicon's standard core operations (such as disaster response deployments involving heavy equipment or rebuilding efforts) and instead emphasize public health emergencies, medical surge support, vaccination clinics, community health outreach, and other HHS-directed activities. As a volunteer, you'll be part of a standby roster, ready to be activated for missions that align with your skills and availability. This is an unpaid volunteer role, offering opportunities to make a meaningful impact in Colorado's public health landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to activation requests for MRC missions in Colorado, which may include providing medical care during public health emergencies (e.g., treating smoke inhalation or injuries from wildfires), supporting vaccination or testing sites (e.g., mass clinics during outbreaks), assisting in medical triage at evacuation centers, or participating in community health education on disaster preparedness.
  • Collaborate with the MRC team to ensure seamless integration into HHS-supported operations.
  • Maintain readiness through periodic training, credential verification, and availability updates.
  • Uphold ethical standards, patient confidentiality, and safety protocols in all activities.
  • Contribute to post-mission debriefs to improve future responses (optional but encouraged for team growth).

Note: Missions are intermittent and based on need; this is not a full-time or ongoing commitment but a flexible volunteer opportunity. Typical activations last 1-14 days, though some may extend for ongoing events like wildfire seasons or public health campaigns.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Current licensure or certification as one of the following: Physician (MD or DO), Physician Assistant (PA), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Registered Nurse (RN), Paramedic, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
  • Active or prior affiliation with Team Rubicon (preferred, as we're recruiting from within our community to build on shared values of service and resilience).
  • Residency or availability to serve in Colorado.
  • Strong commitment to volunteerism, with flexibility for short-notice activations (typically 1-14 days per mission).
  • Ability to work in dynamic, potentially high-stress environments while prioritizing patient-centered care.
  • Background check and credential verification required upon application.
  • Successful upload of your medical license or certification into Roll Call for credential verification.

Preferred skills include bilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish), experience in rural or underserved settings, familiarity with disaster behavioral health, or prior involvement in wildfire or pandemic responses to better address Colorado-specific challenges like remote evacuations and health equity.

We welcome all qualified medical providers, regardless of Team Rubicon tenure, as long as you meet professional standards.
