The incumbent Toxicologist conducts human health risk assessments of consumer, professional and household products in the Americas. The incumbent will conduct product safety and health risk assessments under the guidance of senior professionals, ensure compliance to safety standards and regulations, and collaborate on stewardship initiatives on a range of products and components through all phases of development, commercialization and post-market surveillance. This position is located in Sao Paulo, Brazil. 

Responsibilities include providing guidance on safe design to product development teams, implementation of safety testing strategies, human health risk assessment, and product safety guidance to enable and meet new product development milestones and ensure K-C products are safe for their intended use, support product registration as applicable, and comply with all applicable governmental safety rules, regulations, corporate standards and consumer expectations. 

The incumbent will represent Product Safety and work closely with cross-functional partners in product development, clinical, medical affairs, legal, quality and regulatory affairs. The incumbent is expected to apply specialized scientific knowledge, be self-motivated and be able to work independently on assigned projects.  

In this role, you will:

    • Conduct and communicate human health safety risk assessments on a range of products, including the substantiation of safety-related claims and taking into consideration identified hazards and exposure according to the intended product use. This includes assessment of scientific literature, evaluation of the toxicological database, determination of appropriate toxicological and other safety endpoints, design hazard analysis, failure mode analysis, exposure assessments and written documentation.  

    • Develop new or revised testing protocols with limited assistance from more senior toxicologists or team leader. The incumbent is expected to work within the appropriate systems to conduct routine analytical, toxicity and safety-related studies to inform the assessment of products and components. 

    • Provide input into the development of product safety guidance, safety point-of-view papers and health risk assessments to internal and/or external technical experts as well as functional and business unit leaders and management.  

    • Support life cycle management through collaboration with cross-functional teams and guidance from more senior toxicologists or team leader to review and respond to safety post-market surveillance data with documented assessments.  

    • Conduct her or himself in accordance with expected Kimberly-Clark leadership behaviors and corporate policies and procedures with an expectation to maintain and enhance their technical, professional, leadership and communication skills through professional development and participation in scientific conferences and meetings, publication of appropriate work in peer-reviewed journals and other aspects of technical and leadership development.

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in toxicology, pharmacology, biomedical or a related scientific field of study with prior relevant experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of experience, or Master's or other advanced degree with some relevant experience preferred 

  • Knowledge of scientific safety and toxicology practices, principles and procedures.  

  • Strong interpersonal communication and technical writing skills with demonstrated proficiency working effectively with technical staff from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Must be an effective communicator in oral and written correspondences as well as presentation formats. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and independently manage multiple tasks in a cross-functional business, academic or professional setting. 

  • Ability to communicate fluently (speak, read, write) in English. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Ability to communicate effectively (speak, read, write) in Spanish or Portuguese.  

  • Knowledge in regulatory guidance and quality management system requirements associated with the development, commercialization and manufacture of consumer, professional and household products. 

  • Demonstrated proficiency working within SAP database environments and Microsoft programs. 

  • Ability to travel up to 20-30% (domestic and international).
