Job Summary: THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TOOLS AND PARTS ATTENDANT (T32), Position Description Number D0918000 and is part of the AL AASF 2, National Guard. ORGANIZATION: AASF #2, BIRMINGHAM, AL SELECTING OFFICIAL: CW5 T. JOHNSON

Major Duties:

  • (1) Identifies user's tools, parts and equipment requirements and requisitions stock as needed. Watches and reports items that are in short supply because of breakage or are in need of repair. Recommends possible substitute or interchangeable items. Sets up, shifts and maintains storage locations. Determines methods of storage, identification, and stock location considering such factors as temperature, humidity, height and weight limits, turnover, floor loading capacities, space available, and convenience of handling items. Compiles records concerned with quantity, cost, and type of material received, stored, and issued for a particular job. (2) Prepares periodic inventory and determines the basis for over, short, or misplaced items by checking such references as out-for-repair, issue, and turn-in records. Compiles reports on adjustments of inventory, stock records, spoilage, damage, location changes, and refusal of shipment. (3) Ensures that tools and equipment are maintained in good condition by performing visual and operating checks. May make minor repairs to tools and equipment, determine when damaged items are too costly to repair, and reports damaged or worn out equipment to superiors. (4) Determines stock replenishment levels for centrally controlled supplies with in funding limitations. Assures that supplies and monies are not wasted through excess accumulation and that items are on hand in sufficient quantities and at the time required. In addition to established guides and formulas, determines quantities required and timely stock replenishment. (5) Receives a wide variety of supplies and specialized items requiring special handling. Ensures that received items are properly stored in assigned locations. Reviews requisitions for completeness and compliance with regulations and revises quantities ordered based on number on hand. Recommends substitution when supply items are not available. (6) Searches for identifying or management data on items of supply. Compares data listed on documents with reference sources such as federal catalogs, stock lists, or other publications. Receives requests needing additional information and compares with reference sources. Searches for stock number, prices, descriptions, and sources of supply. Traces part number or type number to identify equipment/item manufacturer. (7) Reviews supply transactions or provide customer service for urgent critical shortage items. Codes and classifies requisitions, shipping orders, and other documents. Refers requests to other sources of supply or an inventory control point when stock is unavailable and/or cannot be shipped. (8) Establishes procedures, management of calibration, and testing of Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE). Establishes procedures, manages, implements and monitors tool room operations. This includes accounting for, issuing and replacing tools. (9) May assist with processing of hazardous materials by inspecting, receiving, sorting, accounting and classifying hazardous materials such as explosives, toxic chemicals, flammables, gas cylinders, radioactive material and hazardous waste. (10) Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military grade in the Alabama Army National Guard. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of trade; ability to apply identification skill (matching specific item names, models, and stock or part numbers with similar specific information at stock locations); ability to use simple hand tools (pliers, screwdrivers, etc.) and to follow oral and written instructions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training in verifying stock by opening, counting, and visually checking the contents of the containers. Experience in establishing stock location by considering such factors as use, size, shape, and weight of items. Experience in completing stock records by showing the names, quantities, and locations of stock. Experience in identifying correct nomenclature and stock number of items to locate stock for issue. Experience in performing maintenance such as replacing wooden handles on handsaws, changing blades on power saws, and greasing or oiling power and hand tools. SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE: --Knowledge of items in stock to identify specific items requested by users. Suggests possible substitute and interchangeable items. --Skill to determine when tools and equipment should be sent for test, repair and calibration. --Ability to determine if items should be salvaged, or repaired, and returned to stock. --Skill to recognize errors from records, (i.e., improper item issue, turn-in, and property accounting). --Skill to identify and establish special storage locations. Ensures that project assigned items are separated from regularly stocked items. --Ability to ensure that adequate numbers and types of items are on hand.
